Recommendations On head unit please?

Hi all,

My stereo packed up the other day on my ZT, totally out of the blue, and a little surprising as the stereo isnt that old. ( So I'm lead to believe )
It was a Sony single DIN unit that was in the car when I bought it in August last year, the bloke I bought it off said it hadn't been in long, and it does look in very good shape, no scratches etc on the face and so fourth. It's worked perfectly, no issues, no sign it was about to pack up.
Anyway, one second it was working, the next it wasn't, it has power, the fuse isn't blown, if you disconnect it then reconnect it, it will light up for about 30 seconds, then all goes black. It's died.

So, I re-fitted the factory stereo. Which is a cassette player, and there is a 6 disc multi-changer in the boot.

The radio works. But I couldn't get a peep out of the 6 disc, so that will be removed and probably binned.
The radio works quite nice, but I haven't played a cassette tape for over a decade, and now tend to use a USB stick with my sounds on. I do still play CD's a bit also.

So, finally my question.
Single DIN, USB, front loading single CD disc players.
What do people recommend please?
I'm not after buying the latest DAB digital radio player etc, but what do people have that does the job nicely without costing the earth?

On the other hand, if anyone fancies a look at this Sony set thats packed up, please let me know.

Many thanks.

Richard

I know its not single din but it needs no adaptor to fit in the dash

I wasnt really thinking of anything that elaborate, but I've read the specs, and it's got a reversing camera?

Now that IS a good idea!

Reversing camera is an optional extra normally but basically it's a tablet in your dash so you can install your own apps and satnav software etc.

Doesn't have a front facing usb ports but does have two on the back with long enough leads you can mount them pretty much anywhere you want in the dash. Got mine hidden behind the centre console as i don't need to access them often as i have a couple of hundred albums stored on them already.

I've just bought this one from Jubbarelly on here - great service from him :}.

Not a "cheap" option but I plan on it being a long term relationship ;).

Oh, and my "free gift" was the reversing camera!

If you want a unit similar to these it is well worth shopping around. Ali Express has a good selection and some even come with Android 10 .

Obviously no UK backup but if you have access to a teenager they can work it all out very quickly. My son had mine working in a couple of mins with no instructions or having seen one before.

The problem with these B and C grade units is that if you get them to work, you can only hope they keep working after a few months. There are a number of threads on this forum of people buying a similar unit (even lots cheaper) and after a few months discover that they won't start, loose functions or behave erratically.

If you don't want that sort of trouble buy from a respectable seller who sells A grade units (and yess... xTrons is A grade nowadays :D)

I'm A grade too!

Cheers.
