260 differential oil fill pics
Hi, I've just become the happy owner of my first 260 V8 (Mk11). Rear diff has minor oil leak as is common. I'm looking for some pics / advice on oil and oil seal changing. Any body assist please?
Thanks Gerry |
Welcome to this forum & to 260's ownership........there's nothing quite like it on both counts!
It may also help you to pop over to the two sixties forum too. |

Drain it from the bottom Housing bolt on the dif..
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/k...psxwxqrjhe.jpg Fill it here .. you might need to jack the diff up a bit to help get a socket on http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/k...psayiy6nh7.jpg I used Syntrax .. http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/k...psvogd3neq.jpg Takes a while to get it in ..as its a tad awkward :D http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/k...psn9fbakuy.jpg Before and After .. http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/k...psanqxpkwi.jpg But not a hard job to do ...;) Now the gearbox is another matter ... :duh::duh::duh: .. but still do able . at home . Chris PS . Had a minute drip there too, think is cos the Cars tend to stand about not used for longish periods ?? . but since its been used its almost stopped. But new seal awaiting ;) |
When i did mine i welded a 12 mm (19mm af) nut onto the diff fill plug this has made removal and refitting the fill plug much easier, don't have to jack the diff any more to squeeze the socket on..

Makes it much easier to remove next time around. Annoying the 260 site isn't up :-( David |
Many thanks, looking forward to being able to contribute as well as learn from fellow owners.

Chris, pics very helpful. much appreciated. I've been searching the net for spares to locate the diff oil seal but am struggling, do you happen to know any suppliers please?
I've spoken to Dreadnought garages but their supplier has dried up currently, I understand the Hydratrak diff is also used on TVR Cerbera, perhaps this is a route ? Anyone have any contacts please? thks Gerry |
The Diff is a Dana M80 quite common .. I'll be finding thesize soon
as it will only be a fairly standard Metal rimmed Lip seal of sorts ( famous last words ..) .;) C |
I got my diff oil seal from here
http://www.readmanracing.co.uk/ It turned out that the leak was coming from the front casing not the oil seal so I have a spare if you are desperate. |
