speed limit devices
The EU are trying to bring in a law to force us into installing speed limiting devices on our cars, the UK are opposed (yay!)
http://www.theguardian.com/world/201...-limit-devices if it does happen it'll be the end of fun driving as we know it and is just one step closer to fully automated driving also could be more dangerous as one person put it, "It could take away people's ability to get themselves out of trouble with a quick burst of speed, such as in overtaking situations where the capacity to accelerate can avoid a head-on collision." thoughts? |
But it also says the fitting of an audible warning would be acceptable, and the 75 already has this feature (visual and audible) albeit operating on one speed limit only with a choice of which limit you decide to use.

Im surprised its taken this long. Its pretty hard to argue against them from a safety, legal and 'green' point of view.
However the resistance from our government has nothing to do with personal freedom, its about the huge loss of speeding fine revenue. |

Maybe, but that seems like an excuse. I suspect it would cost less lives than it would save, by quite a margin. Its a weak argument when you have very very slow cars on the road already which couldn't get themselves out of trouble if they tried.

I do think it would increase used car values though. I cant see them forcing older cars to have the technology fitted, so those wanting an unrestricted car would pay more for an older one.

even if it did come in they'll be overide devices available on ebay within days.
totally stupid idea and fortunately like mentioned the government would lose too much money from fines hence it won't happen ;) |
One thought strikes me not mentioned as yet, it such a device was dangerous as has been suggested, why do commercials have them?

this is the same in many ways as those young drivers curfew insurance where it was proven poor lad died because he was trying to get home before his 11pm insurance curfew.
Coronoer pretty much put the blame on that being root cause. Speed awareness alerts are quite sufficient, locking the attributes of a car are just asking for problems maybe not to be increased but certainly shifted. |
