Changing Xenon bulbs

Is there anything complicated in changing xenon bulbs in a facelift ZTT? One of mine is failing and I thought I would check before trying to change it.
Also I see people are selling more powerful (up to 6000) bulbs are these a safe upgrade or do the put a strain on the light unit and igniters?
Any advice gratefully received

There is a How to somewhere, I'll try and find it. You'll need to remove the ballast on the back of the unit, then fit D2S bulbs. the oem are 4300K, 6000K is just a different colour, not more powerful:cool:

So no point in upgrading them then? I have to say the xenons on these cars are really poor the standard lights while not exactly brilliant give better depth and width of beam in my opinion

These numbers (4300, 5000, 6000, etc,) are the colour temperatures in degrees Kelvin/degrees Absolute) and signify the type of light (i.e. the wavelengths) emitted by the plasma arc. As the numbers go up, ultimately towards 14000 and beyond, the wavelength decreases. It heads into the Ultra Violet area. It decreases in such a way that the amount of light that's visible to human eyes (i.e. the useful bit) decreases dramatically. So, the most useful amount of light comes from the lowest colour temperature. This explains why MGR chose to fit 4300K burners rather than say 6000K or higher. Not withstanding, people like that bluish twinkle the higher numbers create and many plump for the compromise of 6000K. You get the Hiddy twinkle without losing too much road illumination. At the other end of the spectrum, the idiots who fit 14000K HIDs really can't see where they're going, but they in returm become intensely visible to insects. In compensation, I guess their cars don't suffer as much fly squash as the rest of us.

I cant comment on halogens on a 75/zt, but the xenons are far superior than the halogen projectors that were in my previous Passat.

If yours arent good (and are not cloudy), check that they are rising/self testing when they are switched on. Then check that the sensors are working, and their arms not reversed. If these are reversed (common) or have failed, the lamps will not rise and self adjust, therefore giving a very short range.

I fitted these and was pleased with the results.
