Admitting defeat R75 Tourer V6 - Scotland *Tentatively sold*
5 Attachment(s)
I'm very sad to be selling this car so very soon after buying and it's totally not the car's fault, it's mine, I underestimated how practical the Scenic was, how easy it was and I'm struggling to load 3 kids with car seats and all the 'stuff' that goes with them into the car in a mad rush in the morning's to get to work. So I'm afraid I'm going back to a Scenic. So there. Genuine reason for sale, now on with the important stuff.
Very rare 2.0 V6 Firefrost Red Rover 75 Tourer Connoisseur, 2004. The car has done just over 60,000 miles and is sweet and smooth. There is nearly a full years MOT with only 1 advisory for a front wishbone. Will list all the things that have been done (all recently): Belts Thermostat Fresh service Fresh Coolant Fresh plugs Replacement VIS motors Replacement ECU and immobiliser Under sealed Front coolant pipe cleaned and sealed Headlamps refurbished All wiring checked and made good Bonnet release modified Plenum drains modified Handbrake modified (1 click) New rear brake pads and discs (genuine mintex) NO LEAKS and WORKING AIRCON! Bad points: The heated rear windscreen isn't working There's a 5 inch scratch on the drivers door The car is mint. All the big stuff has been done and it'll provide many more years of trouble free motoring. PhilT4 has gone over the car with a fine tooth comb and can confirm it's a good 'un. Looking for £995 no offers!, car is located in Glasgow. http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...8&d=1414524532 http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...9&d=1414524573 http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...0&d=1414524588 http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...1&d=1414524600 http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...2&d=1414524611 |
Looks like a bargain for someone.
Hopefully it'll be a buyer from down South who needs a collection/delivery service. At the moment all my enquiries are for from South to North, North to South would make a change. |
Good luck with the sale Anna
|
Hi.
Don't hesitate guys and gals as Alan will be here on Saturday the 1st and I'm sure would be able to oblige! |
Anna, sorry to hear this.
Remember Swap Shop? Go onto Gumtree Glasgow and search "Scenic swap" or "Scenic why" (WHY means What Have You?) Set the search criteria for 100 miles around Glasgow. http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/re...ter/1084781083 http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-m...wap/1081061989 |
This probably speaks volumes but while I have no qualms buying a 10 year old rover, I want the peace of mind of buying a renault from a dealership! :D
If only the 75 came in MPV form.............. |
£1350 now x

Glad to see you got to Scotland and back OK.
Sounds as if it was a trouble free journey. I am about to put the 800 Sterling on here which you saw when you picked the MGZT up. Regards Lynn |

Thanks for prepping the ZT for the journey, a very smooth run. Already seen your ad for the Sterling and hopefully given it a boost. Trying to interest my brother in the Sterling at the moment. |
SFS. I'll now consider offers around the £1200 mark.
|
I've dropped the price now to £995 and that is that, not a penny less. I realise we're getting to that horrible time of year and I want it away before the end of Nov, I'll give it another week then it's going on ebay. Surely someone should be biting my hand off!!
|
I was trying to convince one of my pals earlier today but to no avail
|
Someone's coming to view the car on Thursday. What's the procedure? I've never sold a car private before, do I let them drive it? Do I ask to see their licence and insurance? Obviously I won't let them drive the car without me in it!
|
Be honest about the car, but tell them everything good about it! If I'm looking at buying a car I want to deal with someone who's upfront about any foibles, faults or upcoming repairs/maintenance that it'll need - the car should be priced accordingly. If it isn't, and I spot something untoward which the seller hasn't mentioned and should really be aware of, I'm much more likely to walk away. However, there's no need to undersell it either. You know why it's special, you know why you bought it in the first place, you know if it's had any significant maintenance (such as belts/clutch etc) recently - all of these are plus points, so don't be afraid to let them know.
People will probably try to haggle and if you're happy to accept a bit less than your asking price, decide on your bottom line beforehand and be assertive with it - simply dismiss any stupidly low offers and let them see you're not there to be a walkover. Try and give them as much time as they want to look it over - maybe even point out that you haven't warmed the engine up prior to their arrival (so they can see it starts first time from cold), encourage them to look under the oil cap for mayonnaise, to check the inner side of the tyre for uneven wear, etc etc etc. This shows you are confident they won't find any faults. It can be useful to see their driving licence and insurance before they take the car out - any time I've looked at a possible car purchase from a private seller, I've offered to bring them with me when arranging the test-drive, just to show goodwill. If you think that's necessary, best to mention it on the phone beforehand, to save any trouble. If this has been agreed and then the prospective purchaser turns up without them - or if for any other reason you "smell a rat" - you can politely but firmly explain that without a security deposit you can't let them drive the car themselves, but will happily take them out for a spin as a passenger and do any accelerating/braking demonstration where it's safe to do so while they sit in the passenger seat. It's still your car till the money is handed over and the documents have changed hands! Hope it all goes well & you get what you're looking for it. :} |
If you think they are unsure, or the conversation dries up a little, I always found a good question starter, has been, 'what do you think of it?' There will be sucking of teeth, and hmmm ing and ha ing, they will start trying to ask questions directed at where they can knock you down in price. This is where you become enthusiastic. You know the bad points on these cars. Tell them, if they dont already know. Tell them each one, where you have corrected, or know them to be fine. Dont be frightened to mention things that may need doing. But mention how easy it is to sort out, but you didnt have the time to do it, or get it done yet. Mention how easy it is to get support and spares for the car (this forum, specialist traders etc).
Dont fill the car up before hand, but dont have the light showing either. Give the car a rub down (as in a clean, not massage lol) before they arrive. Spray vinyl and rubber care or similar on the tyres (it is amazing how clean, blackened tyres make the rest of the car look good). Take everything out of the car, it gives the impression that the person can drive away in it as soon as they hand over the cash. Do not give the car away because they have cash, it is easy to be sucked in, when the paper is waved in front of you. As mentioned before, set your price mentally, and dont drop below it. You have obviously put a lot of effort and money into it. If you have it advertised for (as an example) £1200, and your bottom line is £1000, and they say 'what is the least you will take for it'. Do not say £1000. They may try then to go to £900 or less maybe. My reply has always been not to suggest my lowest price, but to say'I think it is worth £1200, especially with all of the work I have put into it, what were you thinking?' Then you know where they are with it, and can negotiate to where you want to be. If they say they would have preferred leather, or some other feature it doesnt have, remind them leather interiors can be picked up for peanuts, but the car is still priced accordingly. (and I am sure it goes without saying, cash - feel for it being real notes, count it too. A cheque - make sure it clears before handing over the keys). One thing most important of all, that has been skirted around. BE SAFE! Try to have someone around when they call. Good luck! |
Hi Anna, I would totally agree with the above advice. The only thing I would add is be safe. You don't know who you are inviting to your home, so if you can, have a friend or family member with you. Particularly when you go on the test drive. I'm sure you've already considered this so the only thing left to say is good luck with the sale.
|
Sorry Alan, just noticed you put the same info on the bottom of your post.
|
Thanks everyone, will let you know how it goes. I'm hoping for a kindly elderly gentleman with a pipe and comfy shoes. :D

Well if he did have a pipe and comfy shoes I'll never know cos he didn't turn up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's the 2nd one. 3rd time lucky. Got an email offer of £600. No thanks. Did have a nice chat with a bloke with a V6 who's mate is looking for one so that sounds promising........ |
Well that's it, the deed it done. I have put a deposit down on a Scenic and all goiong well should take delivery on Tues. The Rover will remain at £995 until then and if it hasn't sold I'm going to sorn it, leave it on the driveway and put the price back up to £1295 and wait patiently for the right buyer.
When storing a car indefinetely how much petrol should I leave in it? I know I'll have to turn the engine over a few times a week but anything else I should do? What about insurance? |
Couple of things off the top of my head -
If it's going to stand for months, then there's a risk that the tyres could end up "flat-spotting", so you should try to either move it half a wheel rotation or so back & forth every week, or if you have axle stands you could actually jack it up & keep the weight off the tyres altogether. Don't leave the parking brake on, as it could seize/stick - if it's a manual, just leave it in gear. No need to leave a lot of petrol in it - think that eventually goes off anyway, plus there's no point in having a full tank in there if you do get it sold. Pretty sure you shouldn't disconnect the battery, as this could cause a variety of issues with the immobiliser, stereo etc. However it may be useful to do an overnight trickle charge every couple of weekends or so, especially if you find that it's getting slow to turn over. Hope you get a buyer soon! |
Don't be tempted to cover it. Covers can damage paintwork etc. The car will cope with a few months exposed to the elements. A good wash and wax will see it through the winter months. You could over inflate the tyre a to help avoid flat spots. On nice dry days put the Windows down or open the doors to allow air to blow through the car. A buyer is out there.
|
When moving car to hopefully rotate tyres do apply the brakes long enough to keep the discs clear of superficial rust spots:}
|
I'd say £995 was a gift with the low mileage. Wish I'd seen this earlier as I've just paid £1100 for mine with twice the mileage and still needing all the standard club recommended upgrades carried out. Very tempted, but other half would object to yet another car.
Old man in comfy slippers? ... define him - I'm approaching 70 and currently restoring several much older Rovers! |
Car is now parked up :D I'll leave the price at 995 for an enthusiast. NON NEGOTIABLE

Seeing as the frontpage now seems to be littered with sold vehicles and Frosty is still unloved, thought I'd bump it back on the front. Car is still available although now sorned.

Whereabouts on this club are the sensible guys, this car might need a few quid for cosmetics but it does have the all important cam-belt history, I'm only saying that because I've seen club members spend £400 more for an "immaculate" car without a cam-belt history. All in all, this car needs to sell to a club member committed to keeping the marque alive. Forgot to mention, before some smart person says if you like it that much, BUY IT, I would have bought it if it weren't for the fact my lease agreement restricts me to parking one car and I couldn't countenance selling my Connie. |

Likewise, I reckon this is a car to trust it just needs someone prepared to spend a few quid to sort out the paint scratch. I've never met the seller and probably never will, I just want someone with common sense to buy it. So I'll keep posting to get it back on the daily threads. |
Hi.
Any lass into cars is beautiful, a lass into cars and MG Rovers is beautiful gorgeous and well worth her weight in gold. :christmas: :new_year::xmas-smiley-007: |

And for Sir Rustalot's benefit, this is just another post to keep this car to the forefront, hope you understand because if not, I'll be round with a blow torch to melt the chocolate on your digestives. :xmas-smiley-007: |
Ha! Here's another free bump!!
It's a nice car. I'd have it myself but, you know... |

Well I had to move the car today from my mum's driveway to mine. Poor Frosty has been ignored since 22nd of Nov which was the last time I even had him open. Turned the key tonight, didn't even hesitate, fired straight up, drove down the road, sweet as a very sweet thing. I will def not be giving this car away. If I don't get a fair price, I'll just keep it on my driveway and tax and insure it in the summer. :christmas:

Good to see you are sticking to your guns on price, which in my opinion is too low. Hopefully the New Year will find the perfect buyer. So :new_year: |

Sounds good. Hope the car stays in bonnie Scotland and the car is seen at one of our shows/events in 2015. |

I'd do the same. Hope it sells to the right buyer. God knows where my cars ended up! |

Hi Guys, lets be wise!
Well this thread is about selling a car but if the number of posts about the social media exceeds the number of people interested in the car, the post could be moved out of the car for sale section. So why not post a separate thread on the subject of internet social media so Anna can concentrate on selling her car. |

Just when I'd resigned myself to keeping the car someone comes along and puts down a deposit. Car is tentatively sold to a fellow enthusiast and will be staying in Scotland :xmas-smiley-024: hopefully you'll see it at a few meets this year.

Hi everyone
I picked up Frosty from Anna today, I've fancied a tourer for a while and this seems to be a good one. Tha car drove really well on the way home, much smoother than my cdti,I'm really happy with it. Thanks again Anna. Hoping the weather will be better tomorrow so I can have a bit of a tinker, will try and make some meets this year if I can fit them round my shifts. Regards Owen |
