NICE MONTARGE Lewis....some grand shots in there mate.

Reebmit 30th August 2009 09:02

I know a lot of people have been involved with all the 'S' reg stuff but I have to say Lewis you have been doing a fantastic job on everything connected with it etc...etc..... Very informative and interesting well done mate!!! :)

Southside 30th August 2009 10:52

Top job but isnt there anything else worth saving in the "disposal" yard?

Robson Rover Repair 30th August 2009 16:48

Yeah, be interresting to see the rest of the salvage yard.

Timbo.P6 30th August 2009 17:26

just seen the photo of the disposal yard made me feel sick all those 75s going to waste

HOMER 31st August 2009 10:47

From the launch pictures OVP is a original spec 75 , but as the pictures progress she seems to have adopted some ZT part ,hairpin alloys , lip spoiler and also 1 odd wheel on the front ? just what goes on behind those gates ? maybe we could arrange a trolley dash through the disposal yard ,just one day for members to be set loss on the cars with socket sets .:D

martin green 31st August 2009 10:51

There are more cars on site, but we will have to wait and see what MG GB Ltd are going to release or not release "that is the question".

However S525 OVP will be put back to her launch condition when the club gets her hands on it.

The car did start out in life as a Rover 75, but when MG Motors took over they re-branded the Rover to MG.

The car will be returned to it's original condition with all the correct badges.

That picture of S525 OVP when Rover were in trouble, with the posters on the gate etc, MAN! that car has seen some action and history its brilliant we have secured that old girl...I love that shot of her from greyghost.

top draw.captured at the near death of MG-ROVER now captured near death in the hands of Nanging -MG GB ltd. Its fantastic we have her now once and for all.

PS Has the clubs directors picked her up from Longbridge yet?

From what I can see the car Vanessa Mae is busy violining on is a Connie, but there were several other white examples also at the launch - so it is quite possible OVP was in attendance.

There are some good shots of her travelling through the countryside in a Rover 75 video about Electrics systems. Shows her with Classic spec plastic wheel trims though!

Interesting history there! It's strange though that the red ZT, with NAC stickers on the bonnet and the larger door mirrors, should be on a T registration..?

Judging by the awfull state of OVP, the other cars dumped in their yard will probably be mouldy inside, elecs prob all badly corroded, ECU's flooded, tyres flat and unusable etc etc, I am surprised they don't simply sell them off to anyone who wants one and is willing and able to trailor them away at scrap value. ..

As the cars are being totally neglected and clearly neither being used or wanted. I really don't understand the reason for the owners reluctance to part with them.

One would have thought they would be glad to get rid.. --..

T907 ABD was originally 2.0 V6 R75 Connie in wedgewood blue IIRC. It was converted to be one of the development MG ZT 190's in April/May 2001 (when I first started at MGR). The car had a 190 engine and gearbox, fibreglass MG front bumper, 18" wheels and the original big rear spoiler. It was our emissions car for the ZT and lurking somewhere I will have some pictures of it on my drive!!

Once we'd finished with it, it became one of the fire vehicles on site.

The S***OVP reg. series went from S525 OVP - S548 OVP and S525 is the only one that is still around as all the rest of them were crushed or crash tested by MGR. She is a real survivor!

I think it 's quite unusual to have such a large matching sequence of plates to one car.
I did have a Mondeo - which was in a sequence of 12 - all Ghia X hatchbacks(and my one was not originally a huge PLC fleet order but first owner was a small building firm)

Could have been in a batch that Ford pre-registered to keep sales figures up. They were good at that sort of thing.

Just had a look at the original of the pic with the red MG in the foreground, and the registration of the white 75 is definitely 'S525...' Can't see the rest, sadly.

Back in the early '80s I worked for an Epos company and we had a whole fleet of white Fiestas A7nnJRU sequentially numbered. Spread over 3 regional offices, I think there were 18 or 20 cars. I had A775JRU. Replaced 2 years later with Escorts in the sequence C2nnPDP in similar volume. We used to get a few pre-reg Fords, usually at model year change as FMC were practically giving them away.

Duotone 2nd January 2010 07:44

Most of them could have ended up at this secret location scrapyard.

Pictures from an old Auto Express.

In the original picture you can make out a white 75.

In the text it says that some of the 75's only had 500 miles on the clock.

Not much of a secret location, it was Gaydon, next to the test track. It is still used by Landrover for their old development vehicles before they get scrapped, clearly seen on Google earth between the Heritage and the test track high speed loop.

Whereabouts do you live? I would try AE Wilcox, Wickwar S.Glos. GL12 8NG 01454 294213. Speak to Tim Wilcox and say I recommended you.

You could try SMG in Bristol but their prices are on a different planet to most other dealers. I haven't had any personal dealings with them.

SMC in Slough (I think) are also worth a Try.

75s and ZTs were still getting registered up to 08 plate, even though MGR went down on '05 so the cars are out there.

Good luck with your search, they are fantastic cars, you won't regret it.

Hi Julia , If you've got a plate with 55 on, it doesn't really matter what year the car is , so just searching for a nice car may make it a little easier :)

Sorry that isn't true. You can only put a dated (either letter based date or number based date) plate on a car of the same date base (in this case 55) or newer.

http://dvlaregistrations.direct.gov....g_restrictions

Quote:

Are there any restrictions to the year of registration number I can choose?

You can make your vehicle look as old as you wish but you can not make it look newer than it actually is i.e. You cannot put a Y registration number on a T registered vehicle but you could choose any prefix from an A to a T.

So, are there any old R75 or Zt's left at longbridge?, is this where the yard so to speake now is?

I did have a trip there a few weeks back about 11pm, all quiet, didnt see any cars about apart from one at the gatehouse parked up, no registration on, it was a prefacelift ZT....no idea how old she is?

Would love to have a tour around the MG plant now since it has been took over...Would love to see them old one left in the scrap yard...
