Lady Emma gets a spring clean

Went up to the boat Wednesday and pressure washed her topsides down for the first time this year.

Removed all the winter grime, bird poo and Sahara Desert from the grp.

She still needs the canopy and fenders cleaning and a good polish, but she is looking a whole lot better already.

Lovely start to the day on Thursday and a nice coffee to start the day.

Met up with a few of my friends at the marina and we took Lady Emma out for her first run of the year.
Not sure how but Lady Emma seemed to steer herself towards the pub:D

Well.....all that hard work from the previous day called for a nice cold one (or two) to re hydrate the system :beer2:

A gentle run back to the marina and time to put Lady Emma to bed.

We get very big skies here don't we! I often wonder where all the water comes from to keep the boats afloat at Acle, with all those farmers nicking it to water their crops! You'd think that we would be tinder dry after some of the long, sunny spells but that watter keeps on a flowing!

Yes... We are aware of this!

Been prepping my boat this weekend, four more days left at work then I'll be out cruising until August/September. Think I will go to Liverpool then Llangollen.

Filled up with red diesel today, that's gone from £1.00 to £1.39 a litre in six weeks. If it keeps going up I'll have to get an 'orse. :}

Tell me about it!

I’ve got two 320 litre tanks on Lady Emma.
I won’t be saying to the fuel attendant “Fill her up” anytime soon

Looking through some old pics and just three years ago I was paying 52.9ppl for red diesel. So it's over two-and-a-half times as expensive now.

The fuel boat Callisto stopped by today to top my tank up and we chatted about various fuel-related issues. Apparently coal will be £80 a tonne more this year because much of it used to come from Russia and Ukraine and that has now been replaced by coal from Australia, with the attendant shipping costs.

That's perfectly understandable. Transporting stuff half way round the world is a great way to get things we don't have locally..... Oh, shock, horror, we do. But only a little, so it wouldn't be worthwhile digging it up ourselves - I believe about 300 years worth. :duh: :duh: :duh:

I suppose that as imported coal becomes more expensive it will become economically viable to re-commission closed mines here in the UK. I imagine that the sanctions against Russia are here to stay.

The former pit near me had 100 years worth of coal left when they turned off the pumps and closed it.....and that was just what they knew about.
