"Shrek" - Biomorphic 1.8T

Inspired by Stu and his stunning red zed, I thought I would start my own blog/post with updates to "Shrek" (named by my other half :()

I bought the car at the beginning of December, from forum trader Simon_rs, in a bit of an unorthodox manner, I PMed Simon and asked him would he deliver it to my work office, and if as advertised I would take it! It's was and I did!

I have to say the previous owners have done a great job, there are a few issues bit fingers crossed all sortable.

Today is the first day I have had the chance to get under and over the car properly.

Started at 9am in the lovely winter sun, I started by jacking up the car to change the lower engine mount, there is a small judder at times and I had hoped this would cure it, as it turned out there was nothing wrong with the old one, but I changed it for a new one anyway.

Next was the plenums, and I am pleased I did, there was a good 4" of water in there.

Next changed the oil and filter while on the axle stands, but again it didn't really need it, but it can't hurt.

I then changed the O rings on the expansion cap, just to be sure they were up to scratch.

I then turned to the headlights, they were very dipped, I suspect the self levellers are duff, but this requires some reading up, so for now, I have adjusted the outer screws to raise the beam a little (will re-visit when its dark)

I also changed the sidelight bulbs for LED ones.

After the above, I decided to tackle the engine bay which was very filthy.

http://i.imgur.com/y5le0KKl.jpg

I did notice a couple more jobs to do, the Xenons Headlight on the left shown above seems to have a leak as there is moisture on the inside.

I also noticed that the car must have had a spray job at the front as some point, as there is evidence of overspray.

http://i.imgur.com/GvTqZzDl.jpg

So, a break for lunch, and then its bath time for Shrek.

Looking good but I missed out on this by two days so little bit jealous so no more updates please :xmas-smiley-018:

LotusLC 29th December 2013 13:27

Very nice indeed, but i would say that lol

pab 29th December 2013 13:51

I'm so much looking forward to seeing this car!

What interior has it got, a few pictures would be good, and is that sound deadening material on the bulkhead or just the image?

Simon.h 29th December 2013 13:55

Nice car, well done. Check out my thread on xenons arms, it sounds like your ball joints are rusty and making the arms bend.

Looks good mate, and can't wait to see it, and it is always nice to see one especially in that colour being looked after.

As you may or may not be aware, I picked up two doors yesterday and they were from your previous red ZT, and are in much better condition than the one's I had on, which had numerous dents on both the passenger front and rear door.

Also got to see the other Green one that Simon has in stock the ZTT Tourer

Hope to see you soon, and love the name "Shrek"

Thanks Stu, a bit bitter sweet to hear about the doors :( I assume this means my old car is done and dusted.

Paintwork on this is very very good

However, the sill trims are peeling, I am hoping Simon comes through with some replacements.

Simon

I have just ordered some door/floor clips, so if you need some then give me a shout, I had the same problem with the seat back, and found that if you get s small bolt and a couple of washers then you can fix it, Put the bolt and washer in from the back of the pocket, from the inside, then through the seat back, with another washer and bolt, or alternatively use a small plastic nut and bolt, something like these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-M4-Nylo...item1c36544a9b

also we have a great paint supplier in Durham, and he can match the paint, all you need is the paint code. he does 1/4 litre tin, or spray can for around £16

Stu

sikelsh 29th December 2013 18:32

Thanks for the tips Stu, much appreciated, might have a go at the seat back on the morrow :)

Last photo today, been fiddling with the lights in the dark... Think I need white burners now, they look a bit orange against the LED side lights

http://i.imgur.com/0qttf6Jl.jpg

Simon

pab 30th December 2013 21:17

The above image is a perfect example of standard 4300K burners, I dare say the colour has also deteriorated over the years. 6000K will match those LED's perfectly and lift the look of the car.

if those pictures accurately shows what they'll look like then they are missing metal cages which are there for a little bit of protection, Matty sells them in his shop now (even though the pic doesn't show them he assures us they do have the cages)

They will do the job nicely. We did the change of burners on McClaran's car and the differance was night and day.

Much looking forward to the next Spanner meet.

sikelsh 2nd January 2014 18:26

Thank you chaps, ill go with the ebay ones I think :)

Couple of small updates

Fitted a new head unit, with Bluetooth and a separate Mic, so far very impressive, I have made calls on the motorway, and as yet, no complaints of I can't hear you, so thumps up so far.

http://i.imgur.com/HQj9aia.jpg

Also had a some scuttle clips delivered and some Fir Tree sill clips too, so will get round to those.

Another annoying issue is wind noise, the drivers door seems a bit misaligned as can be seen here, so need to work out how to adjust it.

http://i.imgur.com/26h3gVd.jpg

sikelsh 5th January 2014 22:15

Its been a frustrating weekend, I have the following parts to fit, and can't due to chopping my finger tip off and slicing my hand open.

1) K&N panel filter
2) sill trim clips for carpet retainer
3) set of stainless bolts to dress up the engine bay
4) Window scuttle clips
5) Bosch wiper blades
6) stainless exhaust tips

Only bits, but would have kept me busy.

Simon

Mmmm have I said something wrong and built something up? They are only the cheapo trims that slot over the tailpipes.

pab 6th January 2014 16:30

Still interested if you have fitted them though. I'm more interested how they look in the heat shield with staggered pipes than the quality..

Mark2000cc 8th January 2014 06:52

What a fantastic looking car mate! Liking all the bits you are doing, what did you use to clean your engine bay?

sikelsh 8th January 2014 08:34

Hi Mark, thank you very much :)

I just used Gunk engine degreaser and pot washing brush, then clingfilmed sensitive parts then hose piped the engine down..

Plenty of rags and then to finish, some good old demoshine.

I intend to go a lot more in to it as Jenny has one of those X5 mop steam cleaners, so will be getting that out (when shes not looking:D)

Thanks for that mate, I'm going to have to invest in some gunk, again great job with the car, look forward to seeing it in the flesh some day

sikelsh 11th January 2014 20:06

Couple of bits today.

Re did the carpet trims all round using the eBay yellow fir tree clips.

Replaced the missing scuttle clips, which now show up the plastic fade
http://i.imgur.com/Too9lX8l.jpg

Started to build up the paint on a few chips and scrapes
http://i.imgur.com/F0fkxLFl.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/8aBjJAMl.jpg

Another touch up in the morning to build it up slow

I won't be fitting the exhaust trims as the look a ******.
http://i.imgur.com/NBkplKRl.jpg

Also collected side skirts from Jake on the enthusiasts site after consuming a very nice curry in Woodall Spa :D

I have some Biomorphic paint on order from Germany of all places!

http://i.imgur.com/k8OuL4kl.jpg

Under the bonnet again, fitted a K&N panel filter and adjusted the throttle cable to take any slack out.

Time allowing, will change the bumper bolts tomorrow for stainless, but need to get some copperslip first.

Indeed Stu, it was a proper shock, it was only wet in one corner!

Still got plenty of dress up to do, but the miles I do it's very hard to keep it clean under there.

No fish in there, but I did find some clips I lost for my heko wind deflectors :D

Where did you fish? I used to go to willows and carpvale quite a lot, some years ago now though.

LotusLC 9th February 2014 19:28

Went to Oakmere near Skipwith, caught 9 small carp and a skimmer.
Never fished either of those venues but have fished most other places around York.. Was a bit cold but great to be out again .

Bit of an update,

Car is going in to the spray shop tomorrow afternoon to get some things done.

1) having oem skirts sprayed and fitted as Simon_RS failed to send on some replacement trims

http://i.imgur.com/k8OuL4kl.jpg

Will be pleased to get rid of this mess
http://i.imgur.com/f8Zyi3Rl.jpg

2) Rear parking sensors sprayed as they aftermarket black ones

3) And there is shopping cart crease on the rear door

4) plus a few other touches here and there.

The spray shop doesn't seem phased by the colour so hope it turns out ok

Would have been nice get a set photo, do we know anyone who has a diesel? There were two made according to the numbers, 1 ZT and 1 ZT-T

klarzy 16th April 2014 21:52

Biomorphic green, the only colour invented by a fish oil salesman with hayfever....

Been painting again, got a technical grey dash set given by Jake over on the Enthusiasts, and I had some biomorphic left, so thought I would give it a try.

Considering the rough texture, quite pleased with the result.

Ran out of clear coat so might have another go over in the morning.

Not sure our lass will be please though :D and it may end up BRG if its too much when in the car, we shall see.

Thats very kind, not sure how true it is, I mean what do you mean one of! :D

I have seen many cars through the forum, and there are some seriously outstanding examples, there is so much more to do on mine to get it there, but one day bit by bit.

Shrek is coming off the road as of this weekend as a daily driver, I collect this old lady from BigRuss at the weekend, she's had a tough paper round, but has a heart of gold... I hope!

cjdonny 5th June 2014 19:20

must say this did stand out at the Doncaster Meet
even my mate in the Maestro thought it was nice:D

sikelsh 19th June 2014 14:52

Well shock horror, Shrek will be undertaking a small transformation over the next month or so.

In August I'm doing one of these Gumball type rallies down to Nice and back with me and the son in Shrek, and the two step lads in our MGF, some 2200 miles in about 5 days, with two K series engines,,, what can possibly go wrong.

So the hunt has started for a new bonnet, if I can achieve this sort of look, I will be quite happy :D

I know I know sacrilege!

I thought the value had to be less than £567 for the two ball rally? great idea though.

It is worth less than that :D..

To enter banger class it is, but you can do it in any car, there are a few RS Focus, some Audis etc going, I think thats why its called Two Ball

Ah right, interesting. I would love to do something like that next year.

sikelsh 24th July 2014 17:46

As part of my upcoming rally, loads of parcels have started to arrive to turn Shrek in to a banger, decals, plasti dip, and thanks to my other half and her sewing machine, my outfit is sorted too.

If you get anywhere near the Hungary boarder then look up a town called BUK.. spa town with some great food in the restaurants...

Also if you can go across into Slovakia, the capital Bratislava is beautiful...
