I'm really very sad to hear this, my thoughts are with his family.

When I bought my car from him we had a laugh about the fact it's got little Scottish badges on the front wings where the UK flags normally are. I said that they'd have to come off but Tam was quite insistent that they should stay to remind me of where the car came from!

As a mark of respect my car will continue to wear it's Scottish flags with pride and I'll always be reminded of my trip to see Tam whenever I look at them.

RIP Tam

Tam was a man of integrity who stood by honesty and fair play. He had a certain wit which could turn the slightest thing into something very humerous. Lets remember the good times just as Tam would have wanted. He was a very brave man who never complained and looking back he always wanted the best for this club. I had the good fortune to meet him. He was taken away from us far too soon and in the end he did not stand a chance. Tam you are now at peace my friend. My thoughts and condolences go out to his partner, his lad, his family and to the closest of his friends here. It is a shock and it is sad.

Phil

Such a lovely post phil.

it has prompted me to recall my fondest memories of the man i named Sir Tam of SHOTTS.
Tam and i were originally members of ORG and spoke through PM and on the phone and of course in our social room on ORG called the highjackers, TAM was always late to the room as he was a confirmed night owl .
One evening around 8 i recieved a call from tam saying it was time faces were put to names and we would meet for a chinwag [loved his chinwags did tam],

I met him in a lay-by near my house in coalburn and to say he was nowt like i imagined is an understatement , here was a small in stature baldy wee man smoking a roll up .

It was a cold night so we went back to my place where i had a coalfire roaring away and we could sit in comfort .
it was on this first meeting that i found a man with an infectious grin and smile and a dry wit allied with a down to earth outlook and i straight away not only liked him but felt i had always known him.

Now TAM drank coffee [no sugar no milk !! yeuk!!] i didnt have instant only fresh ground so i offered him that but told him it might be too strong for him !! " Let me try it he said" .
By half two in the morning and about 6 of these triple espresso,s tam set off for home but never got there .

he was so hyper with the coffee he just drove around for 4 hours blasting out his music and covering mile after mile .

He was awake for all of the next day and cursed me up and down but in his usual funny way.

so that was it , i had met tam and it was to be what i hoped a friendship for life , we shared a love of 75/zts , we attended countless meets including a national , we met up monthly at the famous HAWES INN meets .

He attended our wedding looking for all the world like PHIL MITCHELL from eastenders :D.

Tam was a one off unique human being , he told it like it was , he helped if he could , he was as hard as nails yet soft as a teddy bear , he held people in the palm of his hand with his stories and laughter and there aint enough room in this thread for the stories i could relate to you .

George, a brilliant memory. That was the thing with tam I would pop out for a cup of tea and a wee chat and 8 hours later we would have solved all the worlds issues and dreamed up some new projects for us to do in the summer:D:D

Ill never forget the first time I met him, back in the olden days tam was a French car breaker so anything Peugeot/Citroen tam was the man. I popped into his yard to collect some parts I'd pre arranged to collect.

The price was 50 quid I only had a 100 pound note. I handed it to him and said sorry I've not got anything smaller you'll need to give me 50 back. He smiled at me and took the note and ripped it in half then handed me one Half and walked off.......................we laughed about that for years:D

Plezier 15th February 2013 10:55

Oh damnation ............................... that has just totally spoilt my day.

Although I never met nor spoke to him I have dealt with Tam via Pm for some bits and to say he was most helpful in a gross understatement.

I can only think now at least he is no longer suffering. The void he leaves will be impossible to fill especially to those who knew him.

My best wishes go to his family. one cannot even begin to grasp how theya re feeling now.

..... 15th February 2013 11:43

Very sad news. My thoughts are with his family.

Radioguy 15th February 2013 11:53

I too crossed paths with Tam, albeit not face to face, his level of integrity and thoughtfulness seemed second to none. He did what he said and promised only the promises that he could keep. the others he told it like it was. A rare breed and irreplaceable I am sure. My and my families deepest condolences and may you be at everlasting peace Tam.

Jay 15th February 2013 12:01

Just a short note to record my sincere condolences to all who knew him. I have memories of reading his posts on the other forum but knew him little.
I would like to be included with those who have expressed their sympathies to his family and friends.

Rest in Peace sir.

Longbridge Loony 15th February 2013 13:07

R.I.P Rotrex and may God be with your family and friends at this sad time.

I met Tam once. He stopped by my house to collect a set of wheels that he was going to drop off to someone on his travels. He was a really nice guy with a knowledge and enthusiasm for these cars like I've never seen before. He was all over mine checking out every aspect of it and then was kind enough to let me have a quick look over his ZT. He really knew his stuff and would help anyone in any way he could. We swapped numbers and I called him once more (as he had implored me to do if I was ever stuck) asking for a bit of advice which he was only too happy to give. It worked and I was very grateful.

A top man and as many have said before, far too young to be taken from us. I wasn't going to post on this thread, I was going to just remain anonymous and remember a nice man who once helped me just because he could, in my own way. But, I suppose all these wee stories and anecdotes will form new memories for those who knew him and give some idea to those who never had the privilege, of what he was like.

A top man. Rest In Peace, Tam.

Cheers
John

Dunc he did that to so many people over the years since then, I've watched many a jaw drop when handed half a note (from a pound upwards!)

Hard to believe but when I met Tam he had very little interest in cars, we were both into bikes ,Short, chubby (he had spikey hair then !) but God
he could ride a bike. Tam being Tam he had to know the ins and outs of all things mechanical on every bike he had, he was never to pround to ask somebody if he didn't know how something worked, but thereafter you could guarantee he could tell you EVERYTHING about whatever it was.and it wasn't the Harley Davidson type bikes, Oh no not for Tam,Tam loved speed (as anyone trying to follow his ZT to the Hawes will tell you). It was the biggest Japanese 1100cc tuned to destruction monster you could find, ( Tam those are racing slicks and you're on the road, "aye but if you don't stop nobody notices, the're only £20 from the racing guys and the're really sticky !") . We barrelled around the North of Scotland regularly destroying tyres over a weekend ("once you pass Crainlarich open the throttle full, put a clothes peg on it and try and keep up! ") . I can remember stopping for Fuel after following Tam for two hours of madness and our hands shaking so much with adrenaline that we couldnt get the fuel nozzles into the petrol tanks, followed by much giggling and hilarity while sat at the end of Loch Ness watching the sun go down.

Some of the best days of my life.

I bought my Rover Tourer from him (amongst countless other cars and bikes because you always knew you would get a good one) and he led me to this forum. When he moved to Rovers he did it like everything else he did, find out everything and make it the best it can be then tell anyone else who wants to know how to do the same.

The world is a poorer place without him

Brian

I only chatted to Tam the one time, but I will never forget the man's enthuisiasm and knowledge of our car's, and his enthuisiasm was infective, I hope those who have suggested a "guard" of 75's and ZT's are able to do this, if his family are agreeable, my thoughts go to them at this sad time, Farewell Tam.

soapy 15th February 2013 15:50

Oh no truly shocked had dealt with Tam and found him a very nice bloke, deepest sympathy to his family at this time.

greendriver 15th February 2013 15:53

Isn't it strange & a little sad that, if you don't know someone personally, you often only get to hear the best of them after they're gone.

I feel I've missed out by not knowing Tam personally...

Thanks to you guys, more people will now understand the high regard this gentleman was held in, and the reasons for same.

R.I.P. Tam

My most sincere condolences to Tam's family.
I met Tam at a few meets, and he was never anything other than friendly and welcoming with a terrific sense of humour. His knowledge of the ins and outs of the cars was phenomenal, and he'll be sorely missed.
Rest in peace, Tam.

Zircon 15th February 2013 17:16

How dreadfully shocking and sad for Tam's family and all his friends who knew him personally.

While I never had that pleasure, I do hope that the lovely things that have been said about him here will give you some comfort.

It does help reflect that this is a club of genuinely kindly and helpful people.

With warm condolences to Tam's family,

Nicholas/Zircon

It is the least i could do for TAM.

At the very outset he charged me with keeping you all informed of his situation , the hardest part for me was knowing he could,nt be saved and keeping it inside .

I have no doubt the way you have all acted has brought a smile to his family when smiling is very difficult.

Yeti 16th February 2013 14:52

**** I knew he was not well but didn't know it was that bad. Please accept my sincere condolences. RIP Tam, you were one of life's good guys mate
