#317 - OMG it's started !!!!
Well 317 has been sitting on the driver for nearly a month since I collected it from Ken
Now I suspect that it's probably the highest mileage car on the road and also a standard spec car with a sunroof. Now I take my hat off to Ken as he's clearly lavished time on money on it, but it's definitely a "used" car Now the trouble is, I can't leave it alone, so in addition to the parts that Ken kindly included, the number of boxes is growing daily........ To date: Rear electric windows ( and a new BCU for facelift cars with remote boot release) parking sensors Headlamp washers Heated Jets Rain Sensing wipers ( with a new screen !!!) Auto dim interior mirror Heated Seats Message Centre Hi Line Sat Nav Harmon Kardon Black Oak Dash (it's got a 75 dash currently, which does lift the interior - but it's not for me) Gear Knob and Possibly steering wheel as the originals have almost no pattern left Head Lamp Protectors Twin Horns Phew - I think that's it..........The only thing it won't have is Xenon and auto levelling lights, but it should be pretty much an SE model after all that..... The first task complete http://imageshack.us/a/img210/1407/trianglet.jpg |
Omg I'm starting to get withdrawal symptons........:(
|
Well gear knob changed
Rear parking sensors done, took a couple of hours, mostly because the facelift holders are different to MKI ones. I will write it up when I get a chance |
Well another day
I had every intention of doing the power wash today. Managed about 7/8 of it. Very nerve wrecking drilling the washer bottle, but I did and it's spot on. I got a BMW seal which is fractionally too long but does fit. Alas the pump I bought is for a later BMW, and the outlet is ever so slightly different, so I've ordered the early version. Noticed that it had a single horn fitted, do add the second. As previously mentioned, the Scottish roads have not been kind to the car, and I think that most of the country's salt stock is under the car, as every liner is cover in it. All the mild steel fixings are rotten, so they've been binned, and I've ordered up some zinc plated hex headed self tappers instead. (couldn't get stainless) Hopefully with a dab of grease they should be easier to get out in the future. I know ken did have a minor off in the car, and that a number of repairs were carried out. The lower "bib" return needs a bit of work as it's got a number of slits around the under tray fixing holes. Hopefully a strip of aluminium and tiger seal will restore its strength and stop the splits. David It's a V8 thing.... |
Here's the powerwash bottle seal from
BMW a mere £2.97 inc VAT http://imageshack.us/a/img211/8872/photoapr15095900.jpg |
I shouldn't read this thread, I fancy a V8 tourer
|
heehee I can see you with one Mark!
|
Red tourer for sale on the two-sixties:) (not me). Recent car of the month over there.

Oops, back on thread :) |
Well at least Ken had got shot of the awful Technical dash, but not wanting to go to the MKI Rhodium, I managed to get a Dark Oak dash. That with a nice new V8 badge really suits the car. I plan to change the centre panel of the door cards at some point, but I do like the "Black" look.
http://imageshack.us/a/img819/5869/photoapr23110306.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img856/4707/photoapr23110310.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img19/399/photoapr23113929.jpg |
Well the correct pump turned up today and fitted perfectly.....a mere £10.75 inc p&p as opposed to a Xpart one at £70.00.........
Washer bottle back in and connected up, just need it enabled on a T4 session now. Still waiting for some more fasteners to turn up so the bumper can go on. |
Well another day....my old friend Corin popped over, to do a few jobs for me including fitting a new (genuine ) screen in the V8 complete with rain sensor......It's at least the thrid screen the car has had judging my the way the last one was fitted (apparently the shape and amount of old adhesive is a tell tale sign)
http://imageshack.us/a/img560/3109/photoapr29114307.jpg And it would appear to work without ZCS coding... Added in a dim/dim mirror whilst I was at it and did a proper repair on the roof loom that had been damaged at some point in the past Only downside, is the scuttle panel and covers have been damaged in the past so they need adding to the wanted list |
Great work David and Corin. :}
|
Is this the car that is destined to have the bumper in my garage fitted to it  :D
|
Started with the chrome ring on the interior door handle, whipped the handle out and glued the surround on to prevent it dropping off.
Then onto the heated washer jets. Why they made the connector bigger then the hole is anyone's guess, but dismantled it and fed it all through. Discovered that Ken had been running arround with a few extra passengers at some time.... http://imageshack.us/a/img593/9430/photojun03113224.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img829/3692/photojun03113238.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img594/9375/photojun03113244.jpg At least the V8 is good for drying mouse poo out !!! Then sorted the stuck rear seat, using a trusty junior hack saw. Rear shelf out, GPS receiver fitted and trimmed the slot for the electric blind slightly so it fully retracts. Alas the late hour prevented the HK/Hi Line loom going in..... |
Not much has happened in the V8 world....
Decided to sort the front badge using one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2611226244...84.m1439.l2649 I picked the hottest day possible http://imageshack.us/a/img607/7917/mmc9.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img191/6915/z45o.jpg Drill 4 holes opposite each other http://imageshack.us/a/img15/325/nl7c.jpg Using a pointed tool, GENTLY lever it all the way round Pull it off http://imageshack.us/a/img546/672/720b.jpg Clean off old adhesive with a drop of petrol http://imageshack.us/a/img203/7379/giah.jpg Affix new badge, and stand back and admire http://imageshack.us/a/img839/189/r4o1.jpg |
Not a Mustang badge ?...................dissapointed :getmecoat:

Put a bit more Dark oak in...
http://imageshack.us/a/img855/5535/k0ty.jpg Didn't have the correct dark oak switch panel, so made my own one to match the CC panel |
My god what's that scary looking beast reflected in the chrome?
http://imageshack.us/a/img203/7379/giah.jpg |
Well a bit more today...replaced all the scuttle plastics that were cracked, split or damaged. New set isn't 100% but it's certainly presentable now.
3 gear knobs later and it looks spot on. The original one had lost all it's dimples and top was a rusty rather then silver colour. 2nd one was off my old ZR, which was much better, but still room for improvement. Next one was brand new, but the plastic top cracked...!!!! can only assume it was in the extreme heat recently Current one is another brand new one. Steering wheel and air bag changed. Again the originals were well worn after 140,000 miles, and for some reason the wheel has a set of non functioning cruises switches fitted. I wonder if the car had a wooden wheel originally, and someone put on what ever came to hand. Still a million and one jobs to do, and no time to do them !!! |
Well got some time to do one of the more important jobs, remove the LPG filler from the wing....It was rotten to say the least.
http://imageshack.us/a/img713/940/arsu.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img51/5387/rpxy.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img845/4817/6vf0.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img823/9454/753l.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img15/2010/iix5.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img837/1055/e33v.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img69/3060/8dvz.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img560/3958/a6uf.jpg Now just need to get the rear wing sorted out !!!! |
Hi David,
That is nasty, my 51 plate R75 is immaculate round the LPG fitting (same place as yours). Have you decided yet to fit a full wing or repair it with a section? Regards, Tom. |
I'm hoping the guy can let a small panel in and make an invisible repair. I'd love a new panel, but I don't think it's worth the time and expense.

No, it's a non SE, with a sunroof, but no TC or Cruise....I'm hoping to add the cruise though... |
Ahh, I see. Bit of a pointless gimmick on a V8 though, who would want to cruise :xmas-smiley-019::xmas-smiley-019::xmas-smiley-019:

Thats a lot better :)

Great idea! I wish I had seen this before.
I have just fitted my lpg filler in the bumper just behind the o/s wheel on my 190. I do hate fillers being fitted in the rear wings! |

Wish this was posted before drilling a hole in my bumper! |

Plan B is to look at cutting a hatch in the plate (where 56 is) and hinging that... Quote:

I'd still do it, and keep an eye out for another bumper[/QUOTE]
Maybe but my bumper is very good condition. |
Hi David,
I've been reading your thread again and i have a question for you - your switch panel, is it the oak one repainted? |
Quote:
I tried with a bit of 1000 grade paper to create a finish, which I'll have another go at |
Well hopefully Monday (weather permitting) the old filler hole will be plated and all lovely ready for some paint
|
Enjoying the journey mate, what type of LPG system is fitted and ever any head gasket problems. I had a Bigas system fitted to my P38 and head gasket went costing me a fortune to repair.
Cheers. |
Well the rusty hole from the old filler is a thing of the past.....Chris did a great job of letting a new piece of metal into the hole. Hopefully a skim of filler and paint it'll be good as new

That looks better already!!
|
David, I have noticed the hole which was causing my boot to fill with water has been leaking on yours too! Its the hole to the right of the boot vent (viewed from in the boot), you will find its a bit of sticky tape over a hole.
Here's the N/S one- http://i744.photobucket.com/albums/x...psa85502bd.jpg |
Quote:
yes, I notices the brown stain too....I've got some seam sealer and will blob some on it...but well done for spotting it |
Is there not a proper oval grommet that will fit these holes?
|

No idea what the hole is even used for... |

Well having sorted out Champion daddy, thought I'd better tidy up the rear panel after the welding.
It's a huge improvement, but still needs some more work prior to painting. http://imageshack.us/a/img713/4929/3eun.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img513/2981/risv.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img571/5241/lsm1.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img543/2881/tdxc.jpg |
What a difference! looks 100 times better!
|
Interesting thread Mr D :D
Tell me the last pic is a trick of the light not a paint edge half way down the 1/4 ;) |

The trim needs to come off and go into a paint shop for professional job |
Cant tell it's primer mate.:duh: When the quarter gets painted give them the moulding to be done at the same time. Good luck taking it off, pinged a few of my clips when I was on my water leak mission.
