Navigation system & Cambelts change

Hi,
It's been a long while since I lasted posted and I am going to be greedy by asking more than 1 question please.
1. Has anyone put a navigation system into their 75 dashboard ( not Tom Tom or Garmin)? If so may I have a peek and how much did it cost you ?
2. Has anyone recently had their cambelts changed and again how much did it cost you? I am looking for someone reliable and local to me in the Croydon area to do the job. I changed the cambelts well over 7 years ago( possibly 8 to 9 years ago). Ive not done the mileage since having them changed and I dont do more than 1500 to 2000 miles a year. I am reticent to change them because of the low mileage that I do. However I could come a cropper if I don't change them I guess.
Your views would be nuch appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Martin.

Indeed. I suppose it cost around £350, installed?

Your first statement is the logical one Martin, your second is based on irrational fear. :D Leave your belts alone would be my advice. They won't wear out when they're not doing any work, and I'd like to reassure you that I'm not pontificating but basing my recommendation to you on personal experience.

Last year I renewed the cambelt on our little Citroën. I did it according to the manufacturer's mileage interval for "severe" use which applies to this car. I ignored the time interval of 10 years. The car was 12 years old at the time.

The belt which I removed was perfect. There was no visual evidence of wear or impending failure. It was indistinguishable from a new one.

The MG Rover 6 year interval is simply based upon their customers' average annual mileage and the safe life of the belt: 90,000 divided by 15,000 p.a. = 6 years. There's no science involved at all!

If that doesn't convince you, nothing will! ;)

Simon

I'm sorry Simon but I have to disagree, just because the belt on your Citroen looked in good condition doesn't mean it was ;) Trust me, cam belts do break! I'd rather have the belts changed and know the jobs covered as well as it can be than take a chance on engine failure

If you can find a local garage willing to fit for you, we have a good deal on the KV6 Cambelt Kits at the moment:
https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/collections/...and-water-pump

Starting at £124.99 inc all belts and tensioners etc, or £154.99 inc waterpump. :)

Thank you Simon and sworks for your comments. At the end of the day the choice is to replace or leave. Decisions decisions!

I had an escort diesel which dropped a Ford agent fitted cambelt at 3 years and three months, so I'm a bit paranoid!!!:duh:

Thank you for advising me. I would go for the latter price I guess. Are there any other items that would be required for the cambelts change? or is that it and I guess the price excludes vat?
Yes I would then have to find someone good, capable and reliable of carrying out the job.

Thanks for the moment and I look forward to your reply to my first qestion.

Belts are made to survive heavy work and are surprisingly tough. Had mine done 4 weeks ago at Lates600 (thank you gents, an enjoyable interlude during which I learned a lot).

However, the tensioners are where the trouble can come. My belts were indistinguishable from new but I, as a non-mechanic, wouldn't be able to tell the difference. But I could tell the difference on the tensioner. It was leaking grease through a seal and would eventually run dry and let go.

The car has done 50,00 miles since 2005 and every mile has been gentle with regular servicing. With a blown engine it would be worth scrap and I would have to start again from scratch so the cost is well, what it is! The peace of mind however is priceless.
