26th Club National Meet & 25th National Club Meet

Excuse me for being a "Newbie" but what is the difference between the two...Apart from one is a "Club National Meet" and the other is a "National Club Meet"? and one is the 25th and the other is the 26th. Will there be a 27th and 28th this year??

Nothing, we have two National Club Meets a year, I think there's a typo with the next one being described as a Club National Meet. The 27th and 28th will be held during 2019.

Hope that helps.

Good evening Jim,
Thank you for that explanation.
I will have to see whether I can get to this event.
You learn something every day!

I will have to pass again I'm afraid. We return from holiday in the caravan same weekend. If it had been a month later, it would have worked as we will be returning daughter to uni in Chester, so almost on the doorstep.

NewGuyPete 20th May 2018 15:30

Hello Ian,

Put me down as attending, have booked into the Victoria Hotel for Sat Night.

Cheers Pete.

Ian G 21st May 2018 08:18

Thanks for the replies folks, names added as requested. Sorry that some of you wont make it this time but having the meets on bank holiday weekends makes it much easier for those who travel some distance (only 330 miles each way for me this time:D) and who would otherwise be faced with the drive home Sunday evening and then work the next day.
I hope to see many of you there on the day. I'll get to work on a Saturday run for those who are making a weekend of it and get it added to the OP.

Cheers Ian

We’re currently planning a caravan holiday in the Shropshire area around the same time so I will see if I can work something out to attend but unfortunately we wouldn’t be in the 75. Don’t worry guys I would hide the Merc in the car park ;)

Anglesey has good memories for us we stayed one night at LlanfairPG on our honeymoon exactly 47 years ago this week. It was our anniversary yesterday.

Just a little taster from the venue following my recce on Monday
Two Lotus Carltons one of which has seen a bit of modification next to a Carlton GSi the guy also owns an absolutely mental vauxhall monaro vxr8..But theres a good quantity of Rover and other BL products to view as well as some army vehicles and motorcycles.
The cafe is also very nice and they have a good play area for the little ones..
The caravaning area is neat and tidy and they have a couple of unusual vehicles that have been converted to accommodation that are still available for the meet weekend I think.

Here is a tip for anyone planning on leaving it until the last moment to book up. We lost the rented house due to the host cancelling, so today I have been hunting round online for a nice hotel in the locality and found many are fully booked. The Holland Hotel had availability, but the shared bathroom did not do it for me ;) The Victoria was full. We are now booked into the Premier Inn Bangor. Good luck!

Meeting 26th / looking for self carwash

Hi everyone,

I am pleased to announce you that I come to visit your meet on Sunday.

Ariving at that place, I will need to wash my car.I am looking for a self serve car wash, and I hope you can help me in finding such place. I don't want any tunnel car wash, neither a car wash where they do it for you. I am specifically looking for a SELF SERVE car wash in the neighbourhood, where I can use a "high pressure" hose. I wash the car by myselfby hand. Normally, such systems work by inserting a "token".

So here is my question : can you help me finding such a car wash?

Many thanks in advance.

I'd be happy to join you all at dinner. But I don't know for sure at what time I will arrive, due to the long distance I will drive. Can you PM me your mobile number, Ian, so that I can update about time of arrival on Saturday?. I understood you will have dinner at the Victoria Hotel, and that is coincidently where I will stay. So that makes it easy.

Cliff

Drove up today Cliff. A406, M25, M1, M6 and the A55. Lengthy delays along parts of M6 (roadworks 40mph and 50mph, where it’s being upgraded to smart road) and torrential rain, however driving by Colwyn Bay at 7pm, it had brightened up with a glorious sunny sky. We are here for 2 nights http://www.glasfryn.co.uk :}

Of note, is the price of fuel along the M1 corridor: 149 unleaded, 150 diesel, Porthmadog Esso 129. We are visiting friends in Glasfryn in the sticks :} on Saturday, it’s Bangor. Sunday night, ferry to Dublin :}

I wouldn’t worry Cliff about washing the car, as mum nature will do it for you on the day.

Is there anyone going to the National Meet, who is calling into see Stocktake, as I have a VIS tester for him to take a look at? Cheers :}

Teflon 24th August 2018 07:04

Got to be honest, I'm in 2 minds about attending now.

We're only coming up for the meet, and it's a 4.5+ hr drive each way. Add in the £250 it's costing for the hotel (we can get a refund if cancelled), plus petrol costs, all for one wet & windy day. Doesn't sound too appealing to be honest. Decisions, decisions......

Cliff

elroy 24th August 2018 08:21

mad dogs and english men, you only get wet on the outside, 4 hrs drive for me but still intend on driving across :D The Mrs thinks i,m mad to travel all that way to get wet, i told her the rains different in Wales :}

Ian G 24th August 2018 08:40

Lots of dry space inside the museum and nice cafe as well.
3.5 hours so far and a little over half way.
Can't help the weather but for us it's the chance to get together with friends again .

Teflon 24th August 2018 08:43

Ah well. Long discussions with Mrs Teflon and we've decided to cancel :mad:.

My fault really. I should have booked a longer break, then one wet day out of, say, a week, wouldn't have been so bad. As it is, we just can't really justify £300 (inc. petrol) for the day with the weather that's forecast. I've no doubt I would have found the day enjoyable despite the rain, but Nora (Mrs T) would be bored to tears.

Ian, can you take my name off the list please, really sorry to let you down :o.

I hope everyone has as good a time as possible, and wish you all the best for the day.

Cheers,

Cliff

Cliff

Good morning Cliff, I understand your reservations in regard to the weather and to the cost. Yesterday we set off at 11 a.m from North London as Jessica had an appointment. I think if we had set off earlier, we would have beaten getting through the 5pm traffic.

We stopped twice on our journey for pee breaks and picnics. The V6 - I filled up before I left London at 11 and we arrived at our destination at 7:15 pm 283 miles completed and with a quarter tank left. The 1998 V6, was a dream to be in and to drive. No overheating and the A/C worked beautifully, nice acceleration when needed.

Interesting, on 02 October, my V6 will be 20 years old and on 03 October OVP will also be 20 years old. Will OVP be at the National? A question for those in the know to answer.

I am not worried about the weather as we have the jumpers, anoraks, hats and umbrellas - I shouldn’t tease :D

For us, it’s an adventure and a chance to see old friends and to enjoy the hospitality, the holiday to Ireland is a bonus. With that, the ferry and hotels in Ireland, its nearly a thousand pounds.

Sorry Cliff and Nora, you can’t make it. Such is the weather aye, chin up :}

Teflon 24th August 2018 09:47

Glad to hear the V6 is behaving herself - she's a real credit to you :bowdown:.

Bit cheesed off at the moment, but it's entirely my own fault. I should have done as you have, and planned a mini adventure around the meet. As it was, I just thought of the National alone, and booked accordingly. Really didn't think it through :o. A lesson learned for next time!

Hope you and Jessica have a great time, and hopefully we'll meet up at a breakfast meet before too long :}

Ian, full marks to you :bowdown:. It seems so unfair after all the effort in organising things, that you should have such bad weather in August :mad:.

If I hadn't been such a (Insert your own invective) and booked such a short stay, I would still have attended (easy to say when you're sitting at home though :o). In the end, I just couldn't justify the cost for the one day, dragging Mrs Teflon halfway across the country, only to return home the very next day just as the weather clears. Fortunately for me, I was able to cancel my Premier Inn booking without charge, and even the cattery refused my efforts to compensate them for the late cancellation. At least the cat is happy.

My pleasure Ian and no problem at all. :D

We did alright and the slate splitting sitting down and listening reminded me of my school years. :D

Many thanks to all who joined in the Saturday run today.
Good turnout of 8 cars plus Lordys insignia.
Slate museum was really interesting with some very informative demonstrations.
Steam train ride was just great fun.
It was nice to be able to access both without worrying about moving the cars.
Cheers Ian

What a change in the weather today, sun and no rain at all. We went to a dog show in Snowdonia. Everyone seemed to know each other or were related to a first cousin or second cousin. The friendly doggies had a lovely day :} Hoping for another one tomorrow, like today.
