Instrument Panel

I have managed to obtain an Instrument panel from an identical car as mine (2.0 CDT).The bonus being it has a fully working display IE NO LINES showing.

So is this a straight forward swop from the old one, Plug and Play Or is it not that simple.

Any info appreciated..:}

Yep. Think the eeprom in the "new" IPK has to be virginised then data transferred from the old one.

OK,Thanks for that.
Is it possible to swap the E Prom?

And what happens if you just fit it and run it with out virginising the E Prom...

As you can guess I am a complete novice with electronic thing's,Well not a "complete" novice, some parts are still missing.:shrug:

stevestrat 19th September 2018 10:40

I seem to remember Brian saying you can swap the eeprom but you need to be a dab hand with a soldering iron.

Rick-sta 19th September 2018 10:45

You'll either need to get the cluster virginised and then programmed in with a t4 or toaf, or swap the eeprom chip from your old cluster to the new one (assuming both are highline clusters).

If you plug it straight in without doing this the wrong mileage will show on the cluster (it will show the mileage of the donor car you removed the cluster from) and you will also see "ERR" on the trip display due to a vin mismatch.

Bare in mind that if you have a later reg car and have removed the cluster from an early car, the instrument cluster won't support your parking sensors, so your parking sensors won't work if you have sensors fitted. Early cars had the parking sensor sounder fitted at the rear of the car, later car's had the sounder as part of the instrument cluster.

Thanks for the information.....Nothing is simple is it...I will check first and make sure that the display is line free and then when I am over in the UK again (end of the year) I will get it on a T4.

Any suggestions as who can do it nearest to the Midlands ??

Simple solution would be to get the matching Light Switch Module from the same car and then you wouldn't get "ERR".

Then, when you're next over get it done properly.

John, if it's just lines on the clocks, why not post it to RickSta for delining, or, when next in the UK, take it to him:shrug:

I had thought of that but it was done some time ago by Klarzy and it only lasted a few weeks so I think there could be more of an issue than just a de-line:shrug

I would visit but i is 175 miles and 3 hours away from my base in the UK

The EEprom is a 93S56 John, an eight pin SOIC8 device, it's about 7mm x 9mm in size.

Transferring the eeprom from the original IPK to the replacement would be the perfect solution.

Be aware that cars fitted with PDC that employ KMB sounder would not be supported if the IPK part number is YAC11xxLNF.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info Brian,I will take the replacement apart and have a look at the numbers and see if they compare with the original..And also see what kind of a job it is to swap over...

if I think I cant do it I will wait till I come over to the UK and try and get it sorted over there..

Cheers.

John.
Pop onto the Nano forum if you able to make the last meet of the year Oct 13th 14th and seek out the jobs thread, I am almost sure you will get a reply from a certain crew member whom will sort this out for you. ;)

Don't think they'll be able to do it as the eeprom will need to be recoded ;)

It's not just a case of putting it on T4, it needs other equipment and the virgin files to reprogramme it ;)
