Personally I find it dull, and agree "If it aint broken .... don't fix it"

It is something I rarely look at so I guess I am unable to compare, it looks good, simple and to the point, which is what new searcing members want to see I suppose.

Totally agree. The original banner looked quite professional - the new one looks like something I could have knocked up (that's not a good thing!).
