Really? People in the UK break into engine bays of 15-20 year old cars? What a strange place.....

Good evening,
With some spare time this afternoon. I thought I would give my striker pins the de-flanging treatment, just in case! I couldn't budge any of the four bolts, using a ring spanner or ¼" drive sockets. I assume there are captive nuts in the hollow section, so are those bolts 'Loctited', or is the resistance likely to be corrosion? Unfortunately, Plusgas won't flow uphill! I don't fancy removing the bonnet under any circumstances, even to drill out broken bolts, and still less do I fancy applying heat, so any other suggestions will be welcome. Thanks in anticipation, Derek. |
Cut through the striker pin. Anyone got a spare they want to sell?

CMOORESY.
Just followed your advice today and successfully opened the bonnet! Took me a lot longer than 20 mins but was well worth it. Just got to figure out how to fit the new cables now! THANK YOU |
Cycle spanners?
I hope I never have to do it but might I suggest that old cycle spanners are or were usually thin flat steel that should be both more easily bent and much thinner than the car chromed vanadium we all use now. Find a cycle rummage stall.
