Thanks Mark
Can i use TOAF myself? |
Yes.
Free to download. Needs a cheap cable, with an internal modification. And a Windows 7/XP laptop. But highly recommended as a first diagnostic tool. It diagnosed & fixed a starting problem on my diesel (a slightly corroded contact in engine fusebox) that has been seen elsewhere, by other R75 owners. YMMV. Good luck. |
So I'm going to go with TOAF as per Marks advice. I seem to a long way from T4 centre. Advice gratefully received as I wait for delivery of OBD cable . Car has developed three problems since lay up 3 months ago: 1. wont start, fuel pumps good, fires and dies with easy start. 2 battery drains over 72 hours if off charger - holds charge fine if disconnected. 3 odometer reads 999 999. Will update. Meanwhile will change plan and get petrol one through MOT (at least needs new front suspension links, they are over a year old after all).

Have you tried the connection on the end of the fuel rail that feeds the diesel to the injectors?
|
Not yet but will do. Thanks to all who have offered wisdom and advice.

I'll try this tomorrow thanks. Would be great if that was answer! TOAF may help with other problems if that gets it started.

So I took of the plug at end of the fuel rail today. Like most of under bonnet it really looks pristine. I cleaned it and treated to WD40 but sadly no cure. Engine turns over strongly but not a flicker of life in it. I'll wait for OBD cable and see what TOAF tells me. If not I reckon I will have to remove ECU and send it to the ECU hospital.

If you think your ECU is at fault i would PM Big Russ - he is very good with sorting diesel ECU's:shrug:

Mk1 CDT won't start update
I think the route cause (and possibly solution) to your problems may lie within your previous thread....
