6.5" Mid Bass speakers 4 for £60 any recommendations?

Old chestnut. Am looking to upgrade the 4 door speakers in my tourer.

Is there anything out there at the moment that any member can recommend?

reveals anything from 10 quid to 210 quid a pair is possible.

As the title suggests, I'm not looking to spend much.
Is that a realistic price range just to get some improved bass handling, or would I be wasting my time?

To you audio purists, for whom anything less than thousands of pounds and hundreds of hours work remoulding acoustic interior trim would be a waste of time. I applaud your work but for now I just want simple/cheap.

Ta Ian. I could only see 2-way Audiobahn's on fleabay and they were pricier than I was planning to skinflint.

Uh, couple more questions -

What impedance am I looking for?

What depth of speaker can the doors accomodate? Any? Or do I have to choose them carefully?

Would my sound quality be greatly improved by adding a crossover?
Is it worth it?
Any recommendations for that?

(I've added stock tweeters to the rear doors)

Hi,

4 ohms is what you are looking for, which nearly all car speakers are so no problems there.
If you were thinking crossovers then you are probably best looking at component speakers which come with bass/mid driver, tweeter and crossover complete.
I would spend the best part of your budget on those for the front doors and then buy a set of full range speakers for the rear to use in conjunction with your stock tweeters.
We have component speakers starting from £40.00 and better than oem full range speakers from around £25.00 upwards

Are the front speakers the same size as the rear ie 6.5inch and can the sub in the rear of the tourer be changed. Can I fit a new speaker in the sub ?

Hi Stu,
How's things?
Front and rear are the same size.
I take it you have the Harman Kardon system in yours?
You can indeed change the driver in the sub enclosure but part of the limiting factor with the sub is the size of the enclosure and the relatively low power output of the amp driving it.
I'm not sure what the cubic capacity is of the HK tourer Sub but if you change the driver make sure that it will be a good match for the capacity of the enclosure

Hi mate. All good thanks hope you are as well. Yes it's the hk set up but very unimpressive. Just been out in a rangy sport with hk and sounds superb so need to upgrade. Can't afford another head unit so hiline will have to stay but surely I can get better sound with speakers and sub. What would I be looking at cheapest for you to supply and fit ?

What is it you think is lacking in you current system?
Is it the bass or lack of, or do you feel the whole thing needs attention?
The easy route into improving the bass is to get an active sub and use that instead of the HK unit.
Small active subs can be had for easily less than £100 these days.
Companies like Vibe etc do nice neat relatively small units.
If you want to improve further then a separate Sub and Amp combo would improve things further still.
Upgrading the component speakers front and rear will pay dividends with the upper bass/mid and high end frequencies.
To be honest even relatively cheap component speakers will be an improvement on the HK efforts.
If you can push the boat a little then have a look at the lower ranges of brands like MB Quart, Focal, Hertz etc
