I can attest to this, having blocked off my upper and lower grilles, with duct tape. Although it did increase the running temp literally by a couple of degrees, it simply wouldnt be worth it.

Fitted the Renault 5 stat at the weekend - a very tight fit, even after softening the hose in a cup of hot water. I ended up using a bit of washing liquid and then pushing it in with a large socket.

Temperature was around 70-75 before, but now gets up to mid 80's. Still takes a few miles to hit the half way mark on the guage though - but I think that's because my drive to work starts with a gentle 20-30mph through town, after which I can put my foot down. But I put the FBH in place at the same time so I'm hoping that will help with the warm up on these cold mornings... just need to fit the fuel pump next week and give it a trial run.

What did you use the straight connector for?

Default Temperature Up, MPG Up Too?

Can people who have done the mod and not already reported whether their mpg has improved, advise if it has please?
If sln8458 (whose coolant gets fairly near what you'd expect with a properly functioning stat) did the mod, he might get a bit more warmth through the heater, but I doubt that he'd notice any significant benefit in fuel economy.

Sorry, forgot to mention, there's no stuffing it yards down the pipe either.
The straight connector was a 100mm straight reducer (silicone 51 to 38mm and a lovely shade of French blue).
How do you put photos or drawings on her?
It's simple to do, costs nowt, easily undone/thermostat swapped and looks as though it's meant to be there.
Even the wife's chuffed - the heater gets warm enough now and her favourite colour is blue.

this may seem a daft question and i am good at them but if you are using silicon inside the rubber top hose when you tighten the jubilee clips does it not crush the pipe.

Did you cut the original pipe or just add to the overall length ?

Just added to the length. No cutting, tugging, ramming or KY jelly involved.
