Default Driving along, then CLANK, CLANK, BANG - exhaust bracket failed!

Hello everyone,

I'm after a bit of help, please, to find a replacement part.

I lent my trusty 75 Diesel Tourer to my Mrs to take to work last week as her BMW was out of action, and Murphy's law - the rear silencer's mounting strap decided to let go. Apparently there were a couple of loud bangs as it dropped and rested on a crossmember underneath the car.

I've made a temporary repair with some cable ties but am finding it difficult to find a replacement stap/bracket. TBH, I'm not even sure that this is an OEM part, as I've seen rear silencers that have the mounting spigots attached to the outer casing of the silencer.

Here's the scene under the car, currently - you can see the rusted remains still attached:

IMAG1177

Does anyone know where I can get a new one of those?

Many thanks for any insight you may be able to give :-)

Oh - typical - I did a bit more searching and found this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304089847144

That looks like the top half.... just need to find the bottom half!

I'll leave this thread up for anyone else who may also have difficulty finding this part...

Advertised as genuine, I'd be very surprised if any are left over from when Rover existed.

web page shows
Out of stock, expected soon Jun 01, 2023.

Is this another "genuine" item made by a company that never supplied Rover?

At least the part is available which we can be grateful for.

You can purchase hangers from the bay.

Or you could make one up your self out of alloy or metal as below.

Cheers for those pics, Arctic - you don't happen to have a link for the bracket above?

If not I think the best approach is a new top part and make up the bottom bracket with some generic strip as it's a lot cheaper than the official bit of bent metal!
