Default Fuel Burning Heater query

Hi all. Could someone please explain to me what a Fuel Burning Heater actually is please? I seem to have one fitted on my '51 CDT. At least I do have the Webasto box that is shown in the corresponding How-To.

Do all the CDT(i)'s have these fitted? What do they actually do?

Hi Snowy, all pre-project drive diesels have these, they are there to assisting heating the coolant in temperatures below 5 degrees C. Resulting in faster engine warm up times and the ability to heat the interior of the car in a fairly short time, otherwise on these engines it takes a long time for the engine temp to reach normal.

You can fit the car with a timer and/or remote to enable you to pre heat the engine and the interior. These were available as an option but can be retrofitted.

Thanks for that Russ. Hmmmm.... the remote/timer retrofit sounds interesting - will have to do some digging about for info on that...

Congratulations on becoming a "paid up" member of the club.

Les at SMC had some timers and they do come up on e-bay from time to time especially the german site, not many on there take Paypal though. But Webasto heater stuff ain't cheap.
The most difficult thing is sorting out the wiring. I've got the timer and the telestart and am now in the processs of sorting out a wiring harnesss from the various wiring diagrams I've got.

You would be more than welcome at the next Yorkshhire meet, don't know when it's going to be yet, probably after the national one.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of your car.

Yes, I've got that one but I don't have the "Y" cable so I'm going to have to make my own up. Also that diagram doesn't have details to run the ATC to enable you to defrost the car, just a reference to the heater relay.

I'm sure you know that you can get those Y cables on ebay.de, but they are very expensive. Should be easy enough to make one up yourself.

My car has the manual heater controls so its a bit easier to do the parking heater. I hope to use a changeover relay and so not need any diodes i.e. the relay NC will connect the heater as normal and will be energised by the FBH to connect 12V to the blower.

Hi CDTi, Thanks very much Mate for posting the wiring diagram. Great info and addition to all the other bits about the FBH. Must get round to sorting mine out. Cheers, JRT
