Smile Vibration/Noise at low revs.Part No reqd.

Hi

I have a CDT Conn with 133000 on the clock.

At low revs 600-800 I have vibration/noise in the car. It sounds just like that the exhaust or something similar is touching against something that it should not.

Have been under the car and can find nothing catching anywhere.

Have removed the battery and checked the engine mounts on both sides and they look OK.

Have run the car with engine cover, sump guard and air cleaner housing off and it is still there.

If I increase revs to approx 1000 rpm then the noise lessens to such a degree that it is not an issue.

There is vibration from the engine when it is idling but for a diesel I would not say it is excessive, but I am trying some injector cleaner in the diesel to see if that will help.

The only thing that I can find that may be transmitting engine vibration into the cabin is the lower engine mounting which sits just behind the sump plug. With the car running I can feel a little bit of vibration been transmitted through the vibration mount retention bolt and then onto the cars body .
The vibration mount does not look in bad condition and I wondered if anybody else had changed the vibration mount with positive results.

Also does anybody know what the part No is and costs/Availability etc.

Cheers

Have you looked at the flexi exhaust joint from the engine to the exhaust pipe? I believe this is a known area of rattle at lower engine speeds.

Hi

Yes looked at the flexi joint and all looked ok.

The sound in the car does have a metallic ring to it though, which made me think of the exhaust, but could not see it catching anywhere.

The vibration is only at low revs.

Fill up with diesel in the morning and will add some forte injector cleaner.

It would appear a few X-Part dealers around the country have the part number you listed in stock recently. Clickity here and type in your part number to see the same list I'm currently looking at. Click on "details" on the results page to get contact information for the various garages listed.

The cat too is known to rattle for some time prior to failure, breaks up inside, you often notice the rattle on tickover or pulling away. Dave
