Hi Stewart,

Many thanks and understood. I don't suppose you have a procedure to replace the ABS Pump? It looks fiddly but do-able. Six pipes and a connector? Anything you can post will be appreciated.

Regards,

Terry

According to RAVE Terry it is indeed as straightforward as that.

Before you start, place a sheet of plastic underneath the brake reservoir cap to minimise fluid loss when you release the pipe unions. Contact with paintwork risks damage.

Keep the working area clean throughout.

It's recommended to release the two inlet pipes on the side of the ABS unit first. Record the positions of the four outlet pipes before disconnection.
Seal the open ends of the brake pipes to avoid dirt ingress.

Afterwards bleed the brakes in the following order. Don't turn on the ignition until this is completed manually.
  1. Left hand (NS) rear
  2. Right hand (OS) rear
  3. Left hand (NS) front
  4. Right hand (OS) front
Only the conventional manual bleeding method is specified by MG Rover in RAVE so diagnostic equipment is not needed.

Stewart's reply may include some special tips that he remembers from doing the job.

Simon

Many thanks Simon. I don’t suppose you know what size spanner I will need for the gland nuts? It’s quite small so I’ll need to buy.

Regards,

Terry.

Not offhand but I can let you know on Tuesday if that's o.k.

Sadly it is such a long time ago that I can't remember the details. With trepidation I did the swap, expecting trouble bleeding afterwards, but all I remember was that it all went well! Good luck.

You'll need an 11mm spanner for the pipe unions on the ABS modulator.
