Question Battery problem!!!

Hi Guys,

Got in to my car at 5pm tonight to go home and it would not start
Turned the key and it just clicked. RAC arrives 15min later and says your battery is flat and promply jump starts the car, He checked the battery power before this and it was putting out just under 10volts ( not enough to start car) he checked the leads with a meter and said i had a power drain of 3 amps but not enough to flatten a battery in a day or even a week. Altenator fine kicking out about 14 volts.
I have never had a problem with car it starts first time every time.
So I have my jump leads at the ready for tomorrow just in case

Has anyone had this happen? and how much is a new battery - any recomendations etc would be welcome.

Rover 75 Club SE 2.0 V6 (Best car I ever owned)

Hello Peter and welcome.

That is not enough of a drain on a battery that is in good health to cause a problem, as batteries age they do not respond well to being left standing even over night.
As the car started easily on a jump, it does sound like a faulty or old battery. Especially as your RAC mand tested everything for you.

I don't know which battery you need for the 2 Ltr. An owner or one of our techs will be along shortly to advise you.

I'll move this into the tech section where it will get the attention it deserves.

Enjoy your stay.

3 amps is about right this will (or should) drop to next to nothing after 15 or so minutes once the car is locked and goes to sleep

The 75 especialy the Diesel put on a really good show when the battery is undercharged, lights flash etc

Mine died over a period of a week last year, if your battery is a few years old best get a replacement before the real cold weather arrives

Hi Peter
This happened to me early this year for no reason at all I thought I will not get caught again and brought a new battery about £53.00 if I remember right . I have recharged the old battery and carried drop tests and found no fault with the battery and it is still holding its charge sitting on my bench so before buying a new battery get the old one tested.

Thanks Guys,

Seem to me best bet is get the battery tested and buy a new one. I am keeping the car for a long time so a decent battery will be on the cards if it fails.

I have the 2.0 CDT and recently got a NUMAX battery from a company on the internet called TAYNA

It was £44 and is guaranteed 3 years

Was delivered next day

SO far seems to be spot on but with a 3 year warranty, I'm not too worried
