Has anyone actually rooted the android unit yet? Most issues will be solved then, i expect most problems could be solved once someone who knows a bit about ROMs gets their hands on a ROM dump.

well I'm afraid it probably won't be that easy. First you have 2 roms to hack : the low-level (radio, DVD, iPod) and and the Adroid. For example, adding phonebook needs more that just hacking. You have to add features with a gui... A real developpement. Second, hacking will not help you with hardware problems : I'd LOVE to use the Android contacts to interact with bluetooth but these are 2 different hardware layers...

But at least, rooting could allow a gifted dev to debug the voice command issue...

Yep, I have a rooted ROM on my Dynavin. Very easy to install, although there is always the risk of bricking the unit doing something like this so proceed with caution.

I have installed quite a few apps that need root but nothing ground-breaking as yet. I must try V6 supercharger as the BMW guys reckons it really speeds things up a bit.
