Took four MOT's to get mine through thanks to the "family" mechanic who has lost all our business, took it to a local expert and it flew through.

Hi Steve (arctic), what I found interesting is the MOT pre checks section Refusal to MOT based on a list but this point in particular:
The reasons for refusing to carry out the test are: g. A proper examination cannot be carried out because any door, tailgate, boot, engine cover, fuel cap or other device designed to be readily opened cannot be readily opened. In my entire driving life and MOT's never once has an MOT tester carried out any pre checks. I wondered if anyone has come across this? |

My 17 year old Tourer failed yesterday (first time in three years) on heavily corroded rear ferrules and a slightly binding brake (which I suspected already; brake calipers often begin to seize up with age). The brake I know how to fix, but having never heard of a ferrule and even after having had it explained to me what it/they were, I ordered a pair of flexipipes from Eurocarparts with (hopefully) the said ferrules attached. DHL should get them to me in time for the return MoT next week (none in stock within a 20 mile radius). Advisories included a slightly off-colour front indicator (new bulb?), an almost illegally worn front tyre and a slightly corroded brake pipe.
