Hi Sean,

I did the I-Pod charging mod to my unit following the pics posted on the other thread. I have been asked by another member how they do it, but I can't find the post.

Is there any chance you know where it is and would it be possible to put it in a "How-to" thread as it is a great mod.

Also I should be ordering the leds this week to convert my double din to blue illumination. I will let you know how I get on.

Cheers,
Justin

Here is the post about the iPod mod:

I discussed with Sean as to why such a simple link was not put in at the factory and he was informed that they were concerned about the iPod/iPhone being damaged. As the mains charger outputs 13V for the firewire input on the iPod, I didn't really see how any issue arise with this as the car voltage should peak @ 13.8V approx.

All you need to do is put in the link as shown in the pics below. Its really easy and much simpler than the GPS mod. I suggest using solid core wire for the link, such as a core from a cat5 cable.

I have tested it for a few hours on the bench and neither the iPod or head unit suffered any ill effects. Just be careful to check your work afterwards for any shorts, stray solder etc etc.

Tony also has it done and he has probably used it for longer than me as I have not fully fitted my unit yet due to the poor radio reception that I am experiencing. My 2g iPhone does charge whilst Tony's 3G (with OS4) does not
for some reason.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT YOU WILL PROBABLY INVALIDATE YOUR WARRANTY IF YOU DO THIS AND EXPERIENCE ANY SUBSEQUENT PROBLEMS. DON'T BLAME ME IF YOUR HEAD UNIT OR VEHICLE SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUST

Brilliant Sean; based on your past experience with them and bearing in mind they're already in production, do you think they could be in our hands this week?

Sean works hard for us, and the units are 100% worth the wait.

Massive thanks again to Sean for this!
