Ha ha don't worry Mike (OMG I nearly called you Mac) - I'm just envious of all those who still have a Rover... I followed a gorgeous early model in kind of metallic British Racing Green the other day, and thought I wonder... then I saw the seal hanging off the rear screen, the rust starting to bubble on the rear sills, the opaque yellow headlights... just too much hassle for an old man like me

If keys immobiliser transponder keys are no longer available there are alternative methods than going through xpart/BMW etc

EWS programming devices are available and for a reasonable price, these program the transponder chip and EWS at home. See YouTube.

Or it's possible to unlock the MEMS3 and diesel ECUs so they can run without the EWS. Allowing you to remove it and run with only a key blade. Not a first port of call for many but handy and one less thing to go wrong. As I found the hard way when my ECU and EWS lost sync while many miles from home.

Thanks for your reply. I spoke to the owner a few days ago via Messenger, who hadn't contacted our local Xpart, but was hoping his missing key would turn-up somewhere.

I know about the EWS devices and have one (unused) at home, I've also a contact in Bergen who can programme a new transponder, just waiting on the owner now.

Even the KV6 immobilisers (which I have) can be deactivated according to a Polish source, but I don't know if the owner would like to take the possible insurance risk. Unfortunately dealing with specialists in the UK is difficult post-Brexit so a local or mainland solution is easier.

Thanks again for your input
