First time I flew to the Philippines was in the mid ‘90s. The Philippine Airlines 747 was ancient (747/0 I think ), departed about 9 hours late due to a problem with one of the engines. LONG flight, nigh on 15 hours (not including the delay) PAL flew Gatwick, Frankfurt, Dubai, Singapore, Manila. The journey is a story in itself, I’ll tell you if you are interested.
Never forget I was sitting next to one of the galleys, when it took off from one of the intermediate stops a wave of water spilled out of the cold drinks drawer and ran down the isle disappearing into the joins in the floor panels Last edited by stevestrat; 6th January 2024 at 17:48.. |

That’s quite an experience and great if you like long haul. What I liked about the 747 was its size and space for walking up and down the aisles on a long flight. The flight from London to Nairobi is nothing like the long flight to the Philippines. The longest flight I have done is London to Tokyo and New Delhi to Bogotá via Miami and Caracas. In those days, people could smoke on the plane. For the Tokyo to London flight, I was repatriating a middle aged man who was working in Japan for a British bank. He had a mental breakdown and was Bi-polar. He was not hospitalised but was put into a nice hotel with 4 minders. We were designated to fly in business class on a 747. At the start of the flight back to London he was okay but whilst flying over Siberia he suddenly turned. He was sitting in an aisle seat chain smoking and had filled up the ash tray with fag ends, so when the stewardess came to empty the ashtray, he pushed his hand up her skirt. When she admonished him, he shouted out there was a bomb on the plane! At that point, the crew and myself helped and cuffed him with plastic ties and held him down whilst I sedated him with injections of a major tranquilliser until he was quiet as a lamb. On arrival in London, I took him by ambulance to a psychiatric hospital where he received treatment under the mental health act for 3 months. A memorable flight. What are your plans for the day? |

Morning everyone from sunny land of the pasty.
Been busy with my credit card. 2 hotels booked for car club meets this coming year. June sees me in Wales with the Cornish MGOC, weekend away event. And I have booked in July for the Bluebird Memorial meet in Lincolnshire. Something to look forward to this year. I’m doing as told yesterday to rest the leg. My neighbour has just been in to stab me with my injection. Only another 98 to go.

It’s great to see you are making plans for getting out and about. I know you fell, but have you found out if you are prone to fractures. Have you been referred for a DEXA bone scan to see if you have Osteoporosis or Osteopenia and to check on the bone density. It’s usually performed as an outpatient and if the results show a need, treatment can be started to make your bones stronger and less prone to fractures. I am not expecting an answer to my question as it’s something for you to consider, you may already know about it. If you have not been referred, you might think about asking during your next fracture clinic appointment. The injections sound horrible but you are tough and will get through them. |

Evening all.
it's been a nice (but cold, windy and wet) day today. Went over to the boat for a few hours this morning. A spot of lunch and a coffee was consumed before coming home to prepare dinner and watch the Arsenal v Liverpool FA Cup game. Roast Gammon, homemade cranberry stuffing, roast spuds, parsnips and carrots, wholemeal Yorkshire puds, cabbage and broccoli was our main course. Homemade wholemeal (no added sugar) apple and plum crumble with leftover mincemeat added was for pudding.
