Your symptoms point to a disturbed K-bus connection Glen when you inserted the new wiring behind the dash.
Here's MGMarc's method for localising K-bus faults. Alternatively a T4 session might pinpoint it. Simon

Fitted dab radio adapter now losing or incorrect display
Thanks again Simon. I didn't think there would be any wires down that gap between the A post and the interior drop down fuse area but it looks like I'm wrong. It's going to be hard to see down there. Is there anyone in the forum in the north notts/north Derbys area with a T4? Obviously I expect to pay for their services.

Apologies Glen, I forgot to insert the link to MGMarc's post which I have now done.
My theoretical diagnosis is based on the following:

Thanks Simon.
I've messaged Big Russ to see if I can go up there on Friday so he can have a look. I think it's a bit too much for me. Re the shoving the aerial down, I thought it was a handy empty recess to hide the cable away as much as possible as I hate seeing cables everywhere. I was just going to check to see if Russ had replied. All this for trying to have stations with decent ( older) music! |

Good news!
I removed the windscreen pillar trim, undid the 4 screws at front of glovebox and pulled down the cover for the fusebox and shone a light in towards the A post area ( where the aerial emerged on Saturday with the dab aerial cable) and saw a bunch of different coloured wires and also a black connector. Although it looked in place, I decided to push it together anyway ( in the absence of any plan or knowledge) while I was leaning over from the driver's seat while doing this, I noticed the hazard lights started to click so sat up and saw the lights for them flashing. I put the ignition on and tried everything to put display on, ie, main beam, indicators, front and rear fog lights and all working properly and the door open lights go out when doors shut. Also no Err on heater whatever buttons I pressed and the rear heated window function is back. Everything that should work, does work. Thanks for your advice and patience Simon. I need a replacement aerial for the dab adapter but will be a bit more careful threading it through the gap next time. |

It's the right thing to do in my opinion. Your name suggests you have an SD1. A C reg SD1 2000 ( with 2 litre from Princess, O series) was my second car. Had 2 new gearboxes in it. Swapped that for a 2.6 X reg auto. Then I'd bought 2 classic cars plus having a MK3 Cortina. My dad, whose drive they were on, made me get rid of a couple of them. Sorry to say the SD1 and MK1 Humber Sceptre went and I kept the Cortina and MK2 Consul. I now have 4 Rovers, 75, 45, 25, P4 110 1963.
