Default ECU goosed?

Related to my non-starting CDTi and lack of ability to connect to the engine module in TOAF, I decided to pull the ECU. I have no history of it being wet, the plenum is clear and dry at the moment. But opening it up, I'm a bit suspicious.

In the pic, there appears to be a bit of corrosion in the bottom left (which would be at the bottom when it's in the car) and perhaps a bit on the board in the same place.

What do people think? Is there any way I can go about validating whether it has a problem?

I sent mine a few years back to the ECU Dr. they said at the time if its ok then no charge but it did need a fix and a £125. a lot better than £850 for a new one and then needs recoding.

Definate water staining there on the board, is if the same on the back of the board?

If it's not communicating then it would need examination to see if there's any components that have been damaged.
Sometimes repair is possible, sometimes not depends what's been damaged.

If you have any questions please get in touch.

Russ

Here's the underside... doesn't look like much evidence of water there.

Ten or more years ago, I resisted and resisted sending my car's ECM off, but eventually gave in. Sent via Datapost, Marinabrian turned it round the next day, and it was back with me day after that - problem cured. From memory, it was wet where yours was.

I imagine Russ will sort you out, or at least tell you there's nothing wrong with it
