So every time you think its sorted the Beemer throws a curve ball ..

Seems because its been so long getting sorted the car sitting under a cover at the side of the road, the battery has obviously gone pretty flat.

Had to jump start a couple of times..

And now a fair amount of the functions just don't work , lost door locks, power windows, lights, and other bits ..

Seems on investigation, its a common issue with loads of BMW's inc the new minis.
If a battery fails or just goes too low, it will corrupt the software in a module called the FRM or foot well module. its a bit like our BCU I imagine.

And Dear old BMW will only sell you a new one for £300ish ,or it can be re-flashed for £30-40 quids.. , bit of pig to get out, from down under the dash , a bit like where our 75/ZT Security unit is..

So been on to Aviva telling them I expect this to be covered in the repair

So much fun.. C

So got the FMR Module sorted.... at £33 .. a bit less than BMW's 4-500 quids

So all the basics are back, light windows/indicators etc ..
What a design ..

Also had a call from Aviva Customer service about my "Complaint"

Re the 11 weeks delay in sorting the car out .

After a bit of whinging again and a bit if a Haggle my Son has been paid £420 compensation for his hassle ( Well mine really,) he's left it to me to sort out ..

Funny how vehicles (basically) before the mid-seventies didn't have "Head Restraints" fitted and Whip Lash was something the BDSM practised.

Now, with HR's fitted to, virtually, all vehicles every minor bump produces the financial WL scheme.

Sounds like somebody, somewhere is taking the Michael to me
As inboard camera's (rear facing as well as forward facing) are now showing that all is not what it seems and was excepted 20 years ago. For instance, breaking hard without and reasonable cause/reason.

Any injury and you'd be daft to not get your own lawyer (one experienced in motor insurance claims).

Ambulance chasers are just that, often get referred by insurers. But if anyone claims that the only way to get things done is to use them they are lying.
My one and only accident happened when I was driving from B&G's to the A1 interchange where a Lexus kindly ploughed into me.

Letter to the other party (never got involved with either his or my insurer) regarding who I thought liable. Two estimate for work required attached to second letter giving 21 working days to finalize. End of 21 days? Yeah, you guessed it - Nada. Application to Small Claim Court and 10 days later I got clearance to proceed with repair.

Never had to claim for the other "stuff" whip lash, vehicle hire or such as I used one of the other cars in my fleet of six and having been brought up to be honest I wasn't going to claim for something that was not true.

Beemer back from repair,. All sorted , new boot, bumper lights ,exhaust.
All finished 1 day before we went to Florida.
As it was 18 days away, we disconnected the neg lead ,and went on the trip, came back to find the boot had settled locked itself, and the car was totally dead, even a jump pack on the under bonnet connections, did not help.
So back under the dash to the BCU, squirt 12v down pin 12, and the boot pops .
Connect neg lead and we all back.
Smart wiring by BMW.not..

Better than built-in obsolescence. But more trouble. Better for B*W. More revenue. Just a racket.
