Can anyone provide me with the basic user steps to change:

Hi Gary
Click on Start then Run. In the text field type 'regedit', (minus the quotes). In the subsequent window, (the Registry Editor), you will see on the left a list of the HKEY entries. Find the one you mention and keep expanding the tree, (by clicking the little cross in the box), until you are presented with the values within Winlogon in the right hand pane of the Registry Editor window. (Similar to file navigation within Windows Explorer really.) Once you have found the 'Shell' entry, right-click it and select Modify from the context menu. In the resulting dialog, you will be able to enter whatever value you require within the Value data field. Click OK and close the Registry Editor. Be aware that any changes made to the registry should be done with due care and consideration as it can have disasterous effects. And also be aware that any changes are automatic, you will not be prompted to either Save or Cancel. HTH.

Ensure you always back up your Registry before altering it,
as if anything goes wrong, Windows may well refuse to work again. |
