Yes, it's apparent that the metal pipes from the heater matrix are basically the same for all engines and pass through grommets in both bulkheads. The Rimmer drawings show each engine variant has its heater hoses attached to these pipes at the grommet in the firewall. So, the easiest way to backflush the matrix, as a starter anyway, is to disconnect the feed and return hoses at the firewall. This will certainly avoid filling the footwell with water from inevitable spills and may avoid messing with the notoriously difficult compression clamps.

I'm not trying to be awkward but Compression clamps must be one of the fastest and easiest tools to use. The ones I have take, maybe, 10 seconds to fit.

Mine consist of two short rods, a latch and screw.

If I could post pics I'd love to show you what they look like.--

PS. Rubber pipe compression clamps.
