Default Headlight Washers

Question:

Do headlight washer jets work when the lights are switched on, or not, if so how does one make them work.

Headlight washers should work with every fifth operation of the screen washers but only when the lights are on.

As said above. turn your lights on (full lights iirc not just sidelights) and activate the screen wash - the headlight washers should activate, they will then activate every fifth time you wash your windscreen while the lights stay on. There may be a timeout if you turn the lights off and back on again - you'll have to check. They will stop washing the headlights before you get to the low washer fluid warning though so if there's any problem with the level sensor they may not work as expected. I'm assuming you've either just got a car that has them or retrofitted to your existing car? And that you have the BBUS in place and have activated the system by T4.

Hi Many thanks for the info, yes I have just got the car with them already fitted. just curious to know if they are needed for the MOT.

If your car has headlight washers chances are you've HID lights so they must work for the MOT

Not required if you have halogen lights - might be required if you have Xenons - but opinion is divided on the Xenon issue and appears to be up to the tester on the day. A tester may take the view that if fitted should work - best asking the test centre you normally use for their opinion, and ask them to back it up with the relevant section from the testers manual. Of course, if they work OK don't worry: never fail for working.

if you have xenons as a retrofit with no wahers / self present then you should not fail an MOT.
if you have self level or wash then it must wor for mot.

the wording of the MOT is "check any wash / self level systems present", not "make sure they are present".
