Hi all got a bit of a strange problem with my CDT
Every now and again it refuses to start. But it seems
If I leave it for 20 mins it will start first time! Obviously
The worry is there that one day it won't any ideas?? Thanks

Dodgy UBP (under bonnet pump) dirty/faulty cam sensor (warm engine). Dirty/loose starter motor connection (not cranking) Simplest and most common faults.

Just to help narrow your fault down does it refuse to crank, and if so do you hear clicking or just a single click, or does it crank but not start, does this happen from a cold start, hot start or both, and once started does the car run OK?

If it isn't cranking then bad starter motor control cable connection or solenoid contacts are worn.

If it cranks but doesn't fire up then failing cam sensor or worn injectors are two common causes, or as Heddy mentions a failing under bonnet LP fuel pump - sometimes they start up if you tap them.

Could be the cam sensor then. Next time it does it check that the under bonnet fuel pump is working, and if it is then try whipping the cam sensor out and leaving it in the freezer for 10 minutes.

If it then starts you need a new one, and if it still doesn't start carry out an injector leakback test.

So it starts fine from cold? If so it's probably cam sensor as this is typical symptoms, if you need a cam sensor I've got one for sale and it's only a five min job, one bolt.

Kindest regards mick

I had almost the same problem, look up your nearest member with a t4 and check the high pressure fuel pump pressure failing a t4 get a bosch specialist to check the pressure.
Try a squirt of easy start if it starts and runs then that's where you need to look
Hope this helps
