Default Warning - DD head unit has now bricked!!

I am not a happy bunny with this head unit.

After nearly three weeks of messing around every day I managed to get the GPS SD reader card working, which was great I thought.

So I switched the unit on and off and took out key, went back in, yep, its still reading a card. I didnt test the gps software yet, so I immediately grabbed my 2gb SD card with the new firmware on it and began installing it per instructions.

Sadly this is when it all went wrong, after 4 hours (yes 4 hours) the unit had not changed from this screen...

.....and I had to go to work, which meant I was going to have to take my key out when I got there as its a public car park.

Now I have returned to the unit to find a total failure from the GPS side of things.

I have included a video to show everyone what I now have.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1d7jr...UQTh-Hqs6MODLR

The radio works, the Media SD card works, the DVD works, but whenever you switch over to the GPS / windows side, everything is a black dead screen.

I have done a soft reset and a 2 hour hard reset and im still in the same boat. I did everything per the instructions on the upgrade PDF and the unit let me down.

I have spent weeks working and fiddling with this unit, trying format upon format, buying new sd cards, trying everything, hard resets, soft resets, pulling fuses the whole lot and now im extremely ****** off.

This unit is less than 14 months old.

sorry to hear your problems Colin, But there is a lesson here, Every one has to be aware that updating firmware in any product is risky at best, there is a chance you can brick any electrical item when updating the firmware.
It's akin to updating the bios in a conputer, RISY, you have been warned, and in my honest opinion, the updater must accept that risk if they are prepaired to do it

Hi Colin, Sorry to hear that your unit may be bricked, let's hope Sean can sort it out.

I would be interested to know how you managed to get the card reader working again as I've had no luck getting mine to work.

If I can get it working I wouldn't bother trying to update the unit as I would be happy that it was working again.

Thanks,

How I got my GPS card to read was actually quite simple.

I did a soft reset on the unit
Then when it loaded up I went into document repair
I noticed that it changed this time from F********************* to E********************
I then switched the unit off
I then did another soft reset and switched the unit back on
I inserted the SD card and it read it, allowing me to browse the folders
and after that, you know the rest lol.

I will be getting my unit down for repairs now thanks to Sean and Eamnon, so might be without it for a bit, but I know it will be sorted in the end. Just looking at decent courers now!

Thanks for that Colin. Tried what you said noticed that mine changed from A******************* to E****************** but sadly no amount of soft resets etc would make the card reader work.

After each soft reset I am forced to do a screen re-calibration then it comes up with 'Not found SatNav software' and when trying to select the folder it just cycles between Nandflash and Device.

I know its not the cards as I have tried 3 different ones including another members card, Swordy, thanks again Paul, whose card worked in his unit but not in mine, therefore can only conclude that the reader is at fault.
